Tempting Turnips

such a classic layout for the LAWN FAWNATICS CHALLENGE 95 – CARD SKETCH but it took me a long time to come up with an idea; just in time for today’s deadline.

fun fact: bunnies can eat turnips but only as an occasional treat.

I painted the bunnies and turnips with twinkling H2Os on Arches hot press watercolour paper, added cotton ball white flocking to bunnies’ tails and popped them on foam tape. the most difficult thing was photographing this card that’ll fit into a 5 x 7 envelope – larger than I usually create; but what are challenges for?

I’m also submitting this card to the As You Like It Challenge Favourite Reason To Send A Card (& Why): I love sending cards to brighten someone’s day, as in a good old fashioned snail mail creation.

Lawn Fawn supplies used:
Snow Day stamps and coordinating dies (bunnies)
So Much To Say (sentiments)
Stitched Garden Border (turnip)
Tiny Gift Box Bunny Add On (grass mound)
Slide On Over Circles (smallest die)
Spring Fling 6 x 6 paper pad

Welcome 2021!

this taylored expressions’ big grumpy sentiment sums up how I feel about this year.

the sentiment is one of several freebies to download; this is my favourite. I fussy cut the printed sentiment to add to the stamped grumpy that was painted with twinkling H2Os on Arches hot press watercolour paper. I die cut a card base with a fold on the top between the ears so it can stand up. I added the confetti with fine tip markers – very therapeutic.

What A Hoot!

the new Impression Obsession Challenge is Feathered Friends!

IO owls copyright linda snailzpace.com

i chose a couple of owls from the IO Zenspirations What A Hoot set (CL339) and tested out my new Caran D’ache Luminance Coloured Pencils on kraft; they work great. i sponged the edges with vintage photo distress ink.

i’m also playing along with these challenges:

As You Like It Challenge His & Hers (& why): i like making both but i usually create more feminine than masculine cards – it depends on the recipient. today’s card is for my husband.

Ducks In A Row

creating this card made me smile. the new impression obsession challenge is ‘send a little humour’ and i hope it makes the recipient smile too.

i created a z-fold card to feature the impression obsession darn ducks stamp (D17214) on the front panel, painted the sky, grass and water on cold pressed watercolour paper with twinkling H2Os, and also painted the IO duck set (DIE398-F) with twinks. to finish it off, i stamped a sentiment from the IO more basic greetings (CL549), which might be retired since i couldn’t find a link.

i’m also playing along with:

Blogging Break

i’ll be off again for a bit while i get a new hip, but i managed to find time to make one more card to post before i’m off.

copyright linda @ snailzpace.wordpress.com stampingbella chicks-1

i’m playing along with the as you like it challenge to share your Favourite Reason to make Cards (and why). it’s difficult to choose – i love making christmas cards and i love painting whimsical images that make me smile regardless of the occasion. i love finding images that i can use to personalize a card and i hope they make the recipients smile too.

i’m taking this one with me for the hospital physiotherapist; i think they’re close on the list to dentists that people do not want to see. :) painted with twinkling H2Os and the stamping bella sentiment comes with the stamp.

even though i was slow to comment and email because of my new knee, i’ll be behind again. as soon as i’m up to it, i hope to get around to visit.

thanks for popping by.

Cracking Me Up

i’m playing along with the taylored expressions’ share joy challenge 49: a sketch and colour combination.

SJC49 (1)

copyright linda @ snailzpace.wordpress.com taylored expressions challenge 49

i created this card for my husband; as a person with a disability, i rely on him for a lot of help. lately, i’ve been dealing with extra health issues and he always knows when i need a laugh. i used two different blue distress inks to paint the sky and i used twinkling H2Os and albrecht durer water pencils to watercolour the cute image from the easter doodles stamp set, no link found.

One Lucky Chick

you might remember that i recently purchased some from the heart digital birdbrain images and this little cutie was free with a purchase. since i need a birthday card for someone who loves all things irish, it’s perfect. this week’s twist is to not use designer paper/just cardstock. i tried. it’s funny that when i first started making cards about six years ago, almost all of my cards were clean and simple and designer paper intimidated me – so many patterns and colours; and now i’m challenged by CAS.

i {heart} card sketches w/ a tWiSt #no.73:

Sketch073-558x720

luckybirdbrain

i watercoloured the image with twinkling H2Os and literally followed the sketch. thanks for popping by.

Time Flies

before i get to my card for today, i want to thank laura love, loves rubberstamps store owner and design team member of crafty sentiments designs for featuring my ‘all bundled up’ card on the crafty sentiments designs inspirational blog today; it was my final card as january’s guest designer at loves rubberstamps challenge and i used a crafty sentiments digi – cold christmas.

today’s card features ‘senior-ita dolores’ from stamping bella by illustrator christine grove; i love her sense of humour and when i get my scooter, i think i might just have to decorate it. i watercoloured the image with twinkling H2Os using the inspiration colours from this week’s stamping bella challenge:

i’d also like to submit this to these challenges:
loves rubberstamps – anything goes #89
try it on tuesday – travel
simply create too – mother’s day or for a female
papertake weekly – anything goes
as you like it – showcase and explain your favourite style (my favourite style is cute and fun with few embellishments as i want the focus to be on the image, which is watercoloured 99% of the time).

A Happy Twirl

COPYRIGHT LINDA @ SNAIL'S SPACE AND DESCRIBED HERE SOLELY FOR PEOPLE WITH DISABILITIES: a card with a twirling koala in a pink and green leotard with pink slippers, pink dots on white background, a strip of pink paper at the bottom and a green bow

i’m playing along with the ‘circles’ challenge theme at stamping bella this week; i used circle dies, the dots embossing folder and coloured with distress ink pads and twinkling H2Os.

this happy koala is one of  two stamps i bought when stamping bella introduced illustrator christine grove’s characters in june; i was lucky enough to recently win a $20.00 gift certificate, so i bought a third character that i still have to colour and some general use stamps. thanks for popping by.

Make Lemonade

the less is more challenge this week is to use a rubber stamp and watercolour (my favourite technique) so i used three different watercolour media to colour this penny black image: watercolour crayons, twinkling H2Os and distress ink pads. i cut out one lemon, added stickles to the edge and popped it on foam tape. thanks for popping by.

Lemonade With Friends

i was commissioned to make a card for someone who wanted bright, cute, cheerful and with mice; it was so much fun to colour these penny black mice images from the ‘homemade’ set. as usual, i coloured with distress ink pads and twinkling H2Os and i masked the sentiment to stamp half on the first panel and the other half on the second; i added a blank white panel to the the final section of the s-fold as requested for a hand written note after i took this photo. i lightly sponged the image panels with distress ink and used patterned paper from pink pettitcoat; i was inspired by sally’s adorable lemonade card.

i’d like to submit this card to these challenges:
crafty ribbons challenge – three of something
a little bit crafty – summer sun ends august 30
animal friends #5 – summer ends august 31
crafting when we can – lemon and lime ends august 17

Ahoy!

copyright linda @ snailzpace.wordpress.com and described here for people with disabilities; a card with a pirate cat holding a bag of gold on an orange base with blue torn paper strips on the bottom, banners at the top, along with an ahoy sentiment in die cut letters.

this is my july DT card for papercraft cafe; marie, store owner, asked me to make a pirate themed card for the town of kingsville’s annual sidewalk sale this weekend when the tall ships 1812 will be visiting. this penny black halloween cat is the only pirate i have and the sentiment on his bag read ‘mice treats’ so i cut that out and made a mini shaker with gold glitter in its place. i coloured with distress inks, added memory box banners and alphabet dies that i love, and added some torn strips of paper. thanks for popping by.

In The Dog House

card with penny black dog house image and inky antics sentiment
the current challenge at the paper and such design blog is to make a card featuring a snail or dog. i’ve made many snail cards, so this time i used a cute penny black dog stamp that was a gift from my friend, anne. everything is coloured with distress ink pads and the sentiment is inky antics. thanks for popping by.

Silly Birds On A Wire

four birds on a wire in pink, blue, yellow, green on a yellow card basei’ve had this magenta bird stamp for a while, so it’s about time i got around to inking it up; it’s coloured with marvy markers, sponged with distress ink and die cut and popped on foam tape. i love this embossing folder from my friend, anne, which i sanded after embossing. i’m submitting this card to these challenges:  paper and such design blog – our feathered friends, pixie dust challenge bird theme and crafty catz – embossing. thanks for popping by.

Sock Monkey Smiles

four sock monkeys in a square on square yellow card
i haven’t played along with the inspiration challenge at splitcoaststampers for a really long time, but this weekend i was inspired by one inspiration photo to make two cards. this was a quick and easy card that i started when the butterfly wasn’t working; it’s just printed paper matted and attached.  i’m also submitting this to the allsorts challenge which is ‘free and easy’ for all of july. thanks for popping by.

Are You A Silly Heart?

monkey and sentiment to be silly every day with striped background paper in bright yellow orange blue white and black stripes
i followed the ribbon reel sketch challenge to create this card, which is going to someone very close to me; she thinks i’m a silly heart and i always encourage her to be one, so maybe this little monkey will help. the sentiment is a punch out, layered onto a die cut doily and popped with foam squares. i attached the yellow button to a heart chipboard button with a double bow. i’m also participating in the allsorts free and easy july theme and the animal antics theme at die cut dreams. thanks for popping by.
