Pretty Peridot Leaves

i was inspired by Magenta Designer  and her stencilling with gesso technique on this card so i played with stencils today – something different for me.

i watercoloured the memory box die cut leaves with ‘pretty peridot’ twinkling H2Os. after the gesso dried, which didn’t take long because of the small design, i painted yellow twinkling H2Os onto the cold press watercolour paper, then sponged dried marigold distress ink on top, splattered with both pretty peridot twinks and some water. to finish it off, i sponged shabby shutters distress ink through the diamond stencil.

Lemonade Mice

i’m playing along with the “More Than One Score” Scor-pal Challenge #5 and this month’s theme of bright and sunny. I searched for quick and easy cards since i was short on time and i found this cute card by Diane Zechman so i used my Scor-pal and cased the design; i tried to change the pointed edge with a die cut shape, but none would fit.

 

i watercoloured these Penny Black images with Twinkling H2Os, Derwent Inktense Pencils and Distress Ink pads; i cut the lemons out since i used watercolour paper and used a velcro closure on the flap; this was a fun card to make.

EDIT: i was lucky enough to be a top three and last month’s scor-pal challenge winner for this card and my prize arrived just after i posted this today – thanks so much scor-pal for the Scor-Buddy and roll of tape!

Penny Black And More – January Love And Romance

Lemonade With Friends

i was commissioned to make a card for someone who wanted bright, cute, cheerful and with mice; it was so much fun to colour these penny black mice images from the ‘homemade’ set. as usual, i coloured with distress ink pads and twinkling H2Os and i masked the sentiment to stamp half on the first panel and the other half on the second; i added a blank white panel to the the final section of the s-fold as requested for a hand written note after i took this photo. i lightly sponged the image panels with distress ink and used patterned paper from pink pettitcoat; i was inspired by sally’s adorable lemonade card.

Penny Black And More August – In The Garden

it’s the first sunday of the month and time for a new theme at the penny black and more challenge; this month we’d like to see ‘in the garden’ creations. i coloured this penny black ‘break for cake’ image with distress ink pads and die cut the sentiment from the ‘in the garden’ clear set. i made my own flowers again with dies and punches and used my memory box ribbon slide die and added stickles to it.

i missed being creative this past week, but we were out of town enjoying a change of scenery and visiting family. it was relaxing to be unplugged, but it’s always good to be home. i had a couple of nice surprises waiting for me – i found out i was a top pick for two challenges and this magenta stamp that i won a couple of weeks ago arrived. this photo inspired me to ink up my new stamp and make this CAS card for the splitcoaststampers inspiration challenge because i think my mojo is still on vacation. :) thanks for popping by.

Blogiversary and Butterfly Card For Class

wow, it’s been a year since i started this blog.  my goal was to motivate myself to continue to be creative and participate in challenges while i traveled along on my grief journey after the loss of my son in june 2009; i needed something to focus on so i didn’t lose myself in the sadness.

thank goodness there are no challenge rules to blogging; i post when i can, share when i want and try my best to maintain a positive tone, even if i’m not feeling up to it.

throughout this past year, i’ve met some wonderful and caring friends along the way and i appreciate the comments, support and encouragement. i love visiting blogs and finding cute images that make me smile, posts that make me laugh and cards that are just so inspiring – all i could ever do is wish to be so talented.

my goal for the upcoming year remains unchanged, although i might push myself to try new techniques. for now, i’m enjoying my comfort zone and monthly challenges that allow me to move at my own pace.  i’m also having fun teaching watercolouring with distress inks classes at the papercraft cafe and this is one of the cards for my July 16 class.  i’m submitting this to the flutterby wednesday’s open challenge this week. thanks so much for popping by.

Penny Black Saturday Celebrates

happy third birthday to the penny black saturday challenge team, which is celebrating with extra prizes and a blog hop; the theme is pesky critters. i raced to get this card done today because i’ll be too busy to finish it by the deadline otherwise. i watercoloured with distress inks, added glossy accents to the balloons and, of course, stickles to the flower centres and gift box. i sponged the die cut stars, covered them in stickles and added some paper streamers. thanks for popping by.

Strawberry Special

this month’s bring back beautiful challenge at flourishes is to use the spotlighting technique, which i’ve never done before – probably because i want to watercolour more than just a small portion of an image.  i popped the spotlighted image on foam tape for the bottom layer and stamped around the top circle; everything is watercoloured with distress inks and the red is actually christmas paper with cream dots on it. this is going to my dad; he loves strawberries, plus he’s an artist so he’ll appreciate the easel. i’m also submitting this to the paper sundaes easel card challenge.  thanks for popping by.
