Day 6 Ellen Hutson’s 12 Tags of Christmas 2021 Challenge

this is the tag I created for day 6 of Ellen Hutson’s 12 Tags of Christmas 2021 Challenge: Jingle Bells with Angela Simpson + Brenda Noelke

day 6 of Ellen Hutson's twelve tags 2021 challenge featuring gold jingle bells on a pink and purple background

I sponged a shipping tag with pink and purple distress inks, heat embossed the mama elephant sentiment in lightning black brilliance ink and added the Impression Obsession jingle bells, of course painted with twinkling H2Os and shaped with a stylus. I also used twinks to paint the greenery, a sizzix/Tim holtz die. I finished it off with gold paint splatters and gold ribbon.

Day 4 Ellen Hutson’s 12 Tags of Christmas 2021 Challenge Part Two

I was having so much fun painting washes that I made another tag for day 4 of Ellen Hutson’s 12 Tags of Christmas 2021 Challenge. this was a two-colour wash also done with Daniel Smith watercolour paint on Arches 140 lb. cold press watercolour paper.

December 4 – Let it Snow with Lisa Spanger + Caryn Davies

this was my first time using gina k glitter paste through a pretty pink posh snowflake stencil – fun, but oh, so messy!

painted snowflake tag for Ellen Hutson twelve tags 2021 challenge

I used the same paste on the Impression Obsession peace sentiment that was die cut and layered three times.

A Little Birdie

I created this card for the current Impression Obsession ChallengeYou’re a hoot! (owls and birds)!

birdhouse shaped card copyright Linda snilazpace.com

I cut the IO house (DIE009-Z on sale 50% off)) from Kraft paper and made the woodgrain by brushing on distress inks: brushed corduroy, walnut stain, dusty concord and black soot. I stamped the IO sentiment, ‘A Little Birdie‘ (CL194 on sale 50% off), on a die cut Kraft circle, added the cheering up sentiment from the same set and sponged the edges with the same distress ink colours; then it was attached with foam tape. I added a die cut IO bird (DIE003-A) that I painted with dusty concord and wild honey distress inks.

I placed the house die over the left edge for a side fold card and I stamped the IO sentiment ‘some birdy‘ (A5418 ) on the inside along with the IO hugs (DIE516-A), sponged with dusty concord and black soot distress inks.

Cute Scarecrow

this is about the only time of year that I’m inspired to use a warmer palette for my cards; it’s another one for the Impression Obsession Challenge theme – Autumn Colours, although I did add some cooler colours.

fall colours card featuring cute scarecrow image

I painted this sweet Impression Obsession scarecrow cling stamp (E11122) and sky with twinkling H2Os and sennelier watercolour paints on Arches hot press watercolour paper. I popped the image on foam tape, attached it to designer paper and finished it off with the Impression Obsession hello from the DIE688-B hello summer die.

Another Monster Smiles

I had so much fun creating my monster smiles card that I made another one for the current Impression Obsession Challenge theme – Autumn Colours.

impression obsession monster stamp on card fall colours

I painted an images from the Impression Obsession Monster Mash (CL886) clear stamp set with watercolour paints on Arches hot press watercolour paper and fussy cut it to pop on foam tape. i used the ‘sending’ from the IO Wishes stamp set (MC657) and used the IO DIE158-H ALPHABET to create the smiles. I decorated my handmade envelope by stamping the spider web (IO CL336 When Life) seven times along the bottom edge; two spiders from the same set fit nicely in the space.

Monster Smiles

I created another card for the current Impression Obsession Challenge theme – Autumn Colours.

monster fall card

I painted one of the images from the Impression Obsession Monster Mash (CL886) clear stamp set with watercolour paints on Arches hot press watercolour paper and fussy cut it to pop on foam tape. i used the ‘sending’ from the IO Wishes stamp set (MC657) and used the IO DIE158-H ALPHABET to create the smiles. I think this is the first time I’ve ever decorated an envelope made with my WRMK envelope punch board: the spider web (IO CL336 When Life) was stamped seven times along the bottom edge and two spiders from the same set fit nicely in the space.

FALL COLOURS

I was inspired to create this card for the current Impression Obsession Challenge theme – Autumn Colours.

I used the first IO stamp I bought, Winter Trees (CL98), to create this card. The stamp was sponged with distress inks: mustard seed, spiced marmalade and barn door and stamped on Bristol smooth paper. I used the same inks to create a mat and finished the card with a sentiment from the IO More Basic Greetings set (CL549).

I’m also sharing this card at CAS on Friday AUTUMN.

Summer Flowers

i almost forgot to upload my cards for the summer flowers theme at the Impression Obsession Challenge; since I’m on the road I used my phone for the first time.

I’m sending more cards to friends during this pandemic although the stay-at-home time feels the same as before to me. I used colour pencils for this Impression Obsession free covid themed digital image, ‘Dear Blank’ – so relaxing.

Positive Pants

as i’m in a high risk group in three categories, i’ve been self isolating for weeks but really, it doesn’t feel much different than my pre-pandemic life.

but i know family and friends are getting tired of the restrictions so i’m playing along with the Impression Obsession Challenge to create funny cards that i hope will make them smile. once again i’ve used the free Impression Obsession digi (NOLA003-DG Positive Pants) and pencil crayons to create this masculine card.

A Punny Bunny

i’m playing along with the Impression Obsession Challenge to create funny cards, an appropriate theme.

like so many people, i’ve been sewing masks for family members since we’re all supposed to be wearing them but i took a break to create this card with a free Impression Obsession digi (NOLA003-DG Positive Pants).

i used pencil crayons, matted the image on pink card stock and attached it to some memory box paper – nice and flat for mailing.

thanks for popping by.

Freebie Fun With Impression Obsession

Digi stamps are new at Impression Obsession and are available for download once you sign in to your account. I downloaded some free images illustrated by IO designers Lindsay Ostrom and Nola Chandler that are very timely and positive.

i’m not a big fan of digis only because i love to paint images and my watercolour paper is too thick to feed through my printer. but my second favourite medium to colour with is pencil crayons so that’s what i use with digis.

this is the first fun image to send to my hair stylist; it was fun to colour and i simply added a mat with the new ellen hutson essential rectangle dies. of course first i had to add a bit of extra glue to the upper left corner; i didn’t even notice it lifted until i edited my photo.

Easter Bunnies

i’ve been practicing painting stripes so i made a quick and easy card to join the new Impression Obsession Challenge – Easter Fun!

i used my painted stripes for the Impression Obsession happy easter die (DIE367-J); the IO die cut bunnies (DIE168-C) were painted with twinkling H2Os on cold press watercolour paper and then i sponged the edges with walnut stain distress ink. i finished off the card with some scraps of paper in coordinating colours.

A Cup Of Comfort

I’m cutting it close to today’s deadline for the new Impression Obsession Challenge – Pour One On!

purple and green card with impression obsession guinea pig in teacup copyright Linda snailzpace.com

I couldn’t resist making another card with this adorable Impression Obsession cutie, H13747, this time using more spring-like colours. As usual, I painted with twinkling H2Os on Arches hot press watercolour paper, matted and popped the image on foam tape. To finish it off, I stamped the sentiment, B20782, with versa fine onyx black ink on patterned paper.

Thanks for popping by.

Hugs And Kisses

well i’m really creating at a snail’s pace so far this year but i am able to play along with the Impression Obsession challenge theme of hugs and kisses.

guina pig in teacup copyright linda snailzpace.com

i painted this adorable Impression Obsession guinea pig (H13747) by artist Dina Kowal on Arches hot press watercolour paper with twinkling H2Os. the edges of the image panel were lightly sponged with pumice stone distress ink and the sentiment (CL549) was framed with a hand cut banner that was also lightly sponged with wild honey distress ink.

i’m also playing along with the Simon Says Stamp Wednesday challenge to use 2 or More Patterned Papers.

Redesigning Designer Paper For Rudolph Days

it’s time for the first 2020 Rudolph Days Challenge, hosted by maureen, where we encourage you to create christmas cards/creations during the last week of every month until November. you only need to submit one entry to be eligible for a generous prize.holly christmas card copyright linda snailzpace.com

for my DT card, i used a technique i am calling redesigning designer paper. i wanted to use the taylored expressions holly embossing folder but with something other than a plain background. see below for steps. I finished off the card with impression obsession die cut holly embellishment and a creative expressions die cut sentiment with red cardstock.

photo heavy tutorial:

step 1: choose paper

step 2: emboss
(if lightweight paper is used, avoid cutting through by placing copy paper behind DP)

step 3: choose inks, ink up brayer
(before brayering on paper, brayer on teflon sheet to evenly distribute ink)

step 4: brayer embossed paper with light pressure

step 5: brayer another layer, lightly

step 6 continue, lightly, until you’re happy with colour intensity

step 7: use marker to colour details

step 8: use leftover inks to splatter background

step 9: spritz leftover inks on teflon sheet

step 10: press watercolour paper onto spritzed inks

I’d love to see your creations using this technique. thanks for popping by.

12 Tags of Christmas 2019 Challenge Day 1

this is the sixth year i’ve played along with the annual Ellen Hutson’s 12 Tags of Christmas, an event i look forward to.

as a bereaved parent, the holidays are challenging so i like to immerse myself in a creative mess and be inspired by fabulous designers who take me outside my comfort zone. this week was difficult because i had to say goodbye to my sweet grandbunny after 11 years.

rudolph the red nosed reindeer tag

this year’s tags focus on christmas carols and day 1 starts with rudolph the red-nosed reindeer. THERESE CALVIRD’s tag inspired me with her attention to detail, pretty colours and i love the layered tag.

instead of holly, i used trees to frame rudolph; i painted the mama elephant reindeer with twinkling H2Os on hot press watercolour paper, adding a glow to his nose. i found a white shimmery paper at my favourite art store, currys, that i die cut with a lawn fawn circle tag die and discovered it takes distress ink sponging very nicely. i also learned i could paint on it so i used twinks for the ice, added liquid pearls for snow and popped rudolph on foam tape so he’s flying. finally, i added a small cheery lynn tag die stamped and white heat embossed with mama elephant sentiment and tied with doodlebug twine.

HAPPY GRADUATION!

i just attended my daughter’s graduation ceremony and i am so proud of her; this is the card i created to congratulate her for earning her second university degree.

all of the products are from Impression Obsession: numbers (DIE282-T), mini mortar & scroll (DIE281-D) and happy (DIE669-N).

i’m linking this up to: Scrapy Land Challenge #125 where the theme is always ANYTHING GOES using any brand of die that Scrapy Land sells (Impression Obsession).

Thanksgiving Pumpkin

i’m cutting it close to the deadline for the new Impression Obsession Challenge – Pumpkin Spice!

pumpkin thank you card copyright inda snailzpace.com

i painted the background and pumpkin (CL980 holiday icons) with daniel smith watercolour paints on hot press watercolour paper, stamped the sentiment (CL549 more basic greetings) in versafine clair acorn ink and added some brown gingham ribbon. to finish off i sponged the edges of the kraft base with brushed corduroy distress ink.

our canadian thanksgiving is october 14 so this small card will be used then.

Smiling Kites

since i had my Impression Obsession  ‘signs of summer’ stamp set out, i used the smiling kites to create another card for the Impression Obsession challenge theme of Things That Fly (not just birds and butterflies!)

IO kites copyright linda snailzpace.com

i painted again with tombow markers on hot press watercolour paper and added nuvo shimmer pen to the kites on this small notecard. the shimmer pen seems to have lifted some colour so i added more colour after this photo was taken. the sentiment is from the IO ‘more basic greetings’ (CL549) clear stamp set.

Flying Frisbees

it is way too hot to be outdoors so i’m keeping cool while i create summer cards.

card with colourful frisbees

the current Impression Obsession challenge theme is Things That Fly (not just birds and butterflies!) i painted the frisbees and sentiment, both from the Pink Ink for Impression Obsession ‘signs of summer’ stamp set (CL873) with tombow markers on hot press watercolour paper.

Hello Sunshine

the current impression obsession challenge is Sending Sunshine! and it’s so nice to have such sunny skies lately!

summery card in yellow and blue copyright linda snailzpace.com

i sponged three yellow distress inks onto cold press watercolour paper and spritzed it and used a leftover scrap of watercolour paper created with turquoise nuance powder to cut the impression obsession sandals (DIE190-C) and the IO hello sunshine (DIE691-C). the chair, part of the same die set as the sandals, was just cut from plain watercolour paper.

i added a beach ball that i painted free hand. i used the dot of the i to cover the beach ball valve and i added a drop of glossy accents to it.

Summer Colours At Penny Black And More

it’s the first sunday of a new month so we have a new theme at the Penny Black and More Challenge: show us your Summer Colours.

penny black summer copyright linda snailzpace.com

my summer colours are green grass and blue skies so i carried the sky in the image circle out to the front of the card. i painted this cute penny black mouse from the ‘critter fun’ set with twinkling H2Os and used the impression obsession die cut sentiment. the wonky stitches rectangle dies are new to me; i really liked them on my teamie’s cards; thanks ellie.

just a reminder that your focal point must be hand stamped, although you can use any company’s image to be eligible for one of the prizes from our generous sponsors: Penny Black, Stamp Addicts, Craft Stash.

What A Hoot!

the new Impression Obsession Challenge is Feathered Friends!

IO owls copyright linda snailzpace.com

i chose a couple of owls from the IO Zenspirations What A Hoot set (CL339) and tested out my new Caran D’ache Luminance Coloured Pencils on kraft; they work great. i sponged the edges with vintage photo distress ink.

i’m also playing along with these challenges:

Some Birdy

i was really challenged by the current Impression Obsession Challenge – Yellow and Blue but i eventually came up with an idea.

impression obsession birds front copyright linda snailzpace.com-1

impression obsession birds inside copyright linda snailzpace.com

i die cut the birdhouses (IO DIE156-H) from a leftover piece of watercoloured wash, used yellow cardstock and mustard seed distress ink for the birds (IO DIE154-A), and painted the hydrangea (IO DIE044-Y) with blue twinkling H2Os ranging from turquoise to a red blue.

all the die cuts, including the fence (IO DIE206-V), were popped on foam tape and attached to a background sky that i sponged; and of course i sponged yellow and blue to create the green bottom. the inside sentiment (IO A5418 Some ‘Birdy’ Loves You) was stamped and i sponged around the edges with mustard seed distress ink.

Bunny Love

a combination of my disabilities and demands on my time have kept me away from creating lately but i had to play along with the Impression Obsession challenge and it’s bunny love theme; bunnies are so sweet.

io-bunnies-spring.copyright-linda-snailzpace.com_.jpg

after i created the white easel base with my scor-pal, i sponged the sky with blue distress inks; the impression obsession fence (DIE206-V) and impression obsession bunnies (DIE664-T) were cut with kraft paper, also sponged with DI.

i sponged green corrugated paper and attached the bunnies  to the back and the picket fence  to the front with strips of foam tape; i usually paint woodgrain so i love that this die embosses it for me in one pass through the die cut machine.

i stamped the spring (MC657) in versafine deep lagoon onto a strip of white cardstock and added the die cut wishes (DIE364-E), also sponged with DI – thank goodness my tear drop sponges are easy on my hands. to finish it off, the sentiment strip was attached with foam tape.

In The Pink Note Cards

i finally have a bit of time to create, although my project is a quick and easy one.

impression obsession bunny notes copyright linda snailzpace.com-1

the current impression obsession challenge is In The Pink! i made a set of note cards featuring this adorable IO bunny (B20551), painted with twinkling H2Os on hp watercolour paper, and a sentiment from the IO More Basic Greetings (CL549) clear stamp set. to finish them off, i sponged the circle edges with distress ink.

IO monster pink copyright linda snailzpace.com-1

Monster Hugs

the current Impression Obsession challenge theme is: It’s All About Love!

io monster copyright linda snailzpace.com-1

i bought this impression obsession Monster mash stamp set (CL886) after halloween but i really wanted to use him so i paired him with the IO hugs DIE516-A. i painted the monster and sentiment with twinkling H2Os on hot press watercolour paper, but i brayered the embossed background with distress inks.

i stamped the inside with a heart from the Handmade (MC146) set, typically used to stamp the back of cards. i forgot to take a pic of that.

Autumn Shadow Box

i thought i better make another shadow box before i forget how.

autumn leaves inside.copyright linda snailzpace.com

the current impression obsession challenge is autumn colours so i used the Autumn Mosaic verse (D5529) on the front, and randomly stamped leaves and acorns in versamark from a clear stamp set, Wreaths & Garlands Fall & Winter (CL84).

i got a bit carried away with the inside but that’s what i see from my window; branches with squirrels scurrying up, down and all over.

The squirrels and acorns were die cut (DIE213-D), then painted with twinkling H2Os, attached to the picket fence (DIE206-V) and the leafy branches (DIE055-N) were added after they were sponged with distress inks.

thanks for popping.

Hugs For Hubby

while i’m caring for a loved one i don’t have much time to create but i did take a bit of a break to play.

IO lighthouse copyright linda snailzpace.com

the new Impression Obsession Challenge is Pop Up Your Words! i’ve coloured the IO New England Lighthouse (G1286) with coloured pencils and popped the IO hugs (DIE516-A) on tiny bits of foam tape. i used the IO happy anniversary die (DIE627-G) and hearts from the IO looped heart border die (DIE128-C) on the inside for my husband’s anniversary card.

thanks for popping by.

My Happy Colours

the current impression obsession challenge is to use happy colours (whatever colours make you happy), which i thoroughly enjoyed; i even used a bit of orange.

impression obsession beach copyright linda snailzpace.com

i created a small easel card to fit on my desk featuring some new impression obsession products i purchased when i was lucky enough to win a $25.00 IO gift card just for playing along.

i used the sentiment and sun from the IO ‘signs of summer‘ (CL873) by Peggy Jo Ackley, and painted with tombow markers on hot pressed watercolour paper; i love the cool colour palette, but i tend to use brighter colours through the summer. i fussy cut the sun to pop it on foam tape and the IO beach chair and sandals (DIE190-C) were layered up five times to hold the card upright; the square panel measures 3 and 3/8 inches. to finish it off, i used the leftover bits from the chair to create my beach fence.

i’m also playing along with Simon Says Wednesday to use a Die and/or Punch.
