Remembering Kath at Rudolph Days

Kath, a regular participant at the Rudolph Days Challenge and a fellow team mate of mine at another challenge blog, passed away this summer; she was known for her paper piecing so in her memory, I paper pieced this Christmas card. I was in awe of her patience, especially when she made a set of cards. it’s not a technique I use because of my hands, and because I love to paint images, but I had fun with this one.

MFT elf Christmas card in blue and purple

I used winter wonderland doodlebug papers and stamped the My Favourite Things elf 5 times. thanks to my tonic scissors, I was able to cut everything except for the skin tones which I used colour pencils for on designer paper. I added stickles to the cuffs and ornament. I stamped off the little snowflake image a few times with versa fine majestic blue ink and stamped a sentiment from the mama elephant jingle greetings set. I used liquid glue on the backs of all the pieces whereas Maureen, of Rudolph Days Challenge, painted glue on the base image and then attached the pieces – brilliant.

Happy Rudolph Days September 2018

it’s time for this month’s Rudolph Days Challenge hosted by scrappymo and as always it’s an anything goes theme that starts on the 25th and ends on the last day of every month until November when you’ll be mailing all those cards.

MFT snowman copyright linda snailzpace.com

for my DT card, i painted this adorable snowman from the MFT cooler with you set with twinkling H2Os on hot pressed watercolour paper, added the MFT Die-namics Merry Christmas Circle Frame and some snowflakes. the sentiment and image panel is all popped on foam tape.

playing along is so easy – all you need to do is create one project to be eligible for a fabulous prize on offer so pop over to the blog to be inspired by the rest of the design team and to read the complete rules.

i’m also playing along with the september merry little christmas challenge of anything goes.

Warm Wishes

i’m creating christmas cards as quickly as possible; i can hardly believe how close the mailing deadline is.

i started this card by freehand painting a plaid on watercolour paper with winsor & newton watercolour paints and then die cutting the frame with the MFT blueprints 29 die set. the bear from the my favorite things cool day stamp set and die cut mittens were painted with the same paints; i stamped a snowflake from the same set on the mittens and added some stickles. the larger sentiment is from the my favorite things hand lettered holiday set.

i’d like to submit this card to these challenges:
Virginia’s View: Watercolor/Stamp a Plaid
ABC Christmas – W for Wishes
Sweet Stampers #1 – Christmas
Stamping Sensations – Christmas Greetings
Noor! Designs UK Winter
A Blog Named Hero – Holiday Themed
Happy Little Stampers Christmas November – Watercolour

Spirit Bear-ing Gift

it took me a while to come up with an idea for this month’s Essentials by Ellen Pin-Sights Challenge  these are the inspiration photos:

linda.snailzpace.wordpress.com pinsights sept2016

since i struggle with shabby chic, i found elements that inspired me: the stone wall, the wrapped gift and the blue/white colour combos. i painted the stones freehand with twinkling H2Os, and also used them to paint the bear, grass and gift. i masked the bear to add the gift, popped him with foam tape and layered him between the die cut grass hills.

fun fact: the spirit bear is actually a black bear but is white.

Fall Fun Bunny

i couldn’t resist using this adorable bunny image again but this time it’s a card inspired by the my favorite things colour and sketch challenges and a request for a fall bunny card.

MFT sketch 299

i watercoloured the sky, bunny and punched leaves with twinkling H2Os and used the larger circle in the MFT Blueprints 16 to create the frame. i cut a mound for the pile of leaves, covered it with some gourd-jus prills and sponged distress inks for the orange and green layers. i finished it off with a ‘cool day’ sentiment that was die cut with a Blueprints 29 banner and i added a pom pom for the tail.

Bunny Burrow

i had a lot of fun creating this second card for the My Favorite Things Card Design Superstar Contest – 2016 and it was quite challenging to execute the idea i came up with.

if you know me, you know i was introduced to bunnies when my daughter rescued one and then another of these adorable animals so this card was created with them in mind; bunnies share a special bond that sometimes can take time to develop but then they’re inseparable and even more cute.

i die cut MFT stitched snow drifts from kraft to create the burrow scene and to add the stitching lines in between the stitched circles, die cut with MFT Blueprints 12; i haphazardly sponged brushed corduroy distress ink and used green glitter foam cut with the MFT fresh cut grass die for the border.

the bunnies were stamped with grey ink and i painted the sky, clouds and bunnies with twinkling H2Os and added white flocking to the tail.

thanks for popping by.

XO

i’m playing along with the My Favorite Things Card Design Superstar Contest – 2016 because i love being challenged to step outside of my comfort zone, even though i initially stare at a blank card and my mind is equally blank.

linda snailzpace.wordpress.com MFT XO

i started with the background; i used a piece of 140 lb. cold press watercolour paper that soaked up a leftover puddle from ken oliver sepia colour burst so it was very diluted and pink. i splattered with pink twinkling H2Os and die cut the stitched rectangle from MFT Blueprints 29.

the X and O, die cut with the small circle and sentiment strip from MFT Blueprints 16, were painted with twinkling H2Os and then heat embossed with clear embossing powder until they looked lacquered. the MFT Blueprints 29 banner and heart circles were die cut eight times from background scraps and double sided adhesive paper so they could each be layered twice and glittered on top.

to finish the card, i painted the MFT Blueprints 16 die cut rectangle with the same twinkling H2Os.

Just A Note

it’s the first sunday of september and we’ve got a new theme at the penny black and more challenge blog; this month we’d like you to add a sentiment to your stamped focal point.

copyright linda @ snailzpace.wordpress.com september pbandmore

i watercoloured this cute bunny from the penny black ‘garden friends’ clear stamp set and used two penny black sentiments: thank you from the salutations set and just a note from the tiny wishes set; i used a stitched MFT die-namics die to frame everything.

i hope you’ll come and play along – remember, you can use any company’s stamp for your focal point, just no digis please; a future guest designer will be selected from those who use a PB image and as always, there are some fabulous prizes to be won from: Penny Black, Sizzix, Sam, Marianne.

visit the blog for some fabulous creations by my teamies. thanks for popping by.

Wild Rose

i ordered this beautiful Magenta Wild Rose stamp when it was released this spring but it’s been waiting for me to watercolour; being the caregiver of a family member and my own health issues has meant i create when i can and i really appreciate when i get to do so.

i enjoyed losing myself in watercolouring with twinkling H2Os and matted the image since i didn’t feel like it needed anything else; clean and simple.

i’d like to enter this card into these challenges:

i watercoloured this adorable penny black bunny image with twinkling H2Os, added flower soft to the tail and stickles to the flower centres.

i hope you’ll come and play along – remember, you can use any company’s stamp for your focal point, just no digis please; a future guest designer will be selected from those who use a PB image and as always, there are some fabulous prizes to be won from: Penny Black, Crafts U Love,  Crafty Ribbons and Stix 2.

i’m happy to announce that House Of Cards challenge blog owner mynn has invited me back to the design team for another 6 month term. along with some other returning members, there are some new ones so you’ll have plenty of inspiration!

i sponged distress inks onto a pre-embossed sheet of paper, added the white dots around the scrolls, added more colour to the butterflies with coloured pencils, attached the MFT Die-namics Hello There and used permanent markers to colour some clear hologram dot stickers green.

i hope you’ll come and play along! different groups will have their creative cards showcased on the challenge blog every five days, so check back for a variety of styles by the rest of the design team.

MFT Camp Create Day 5

it’s very rare for me to post so often, but i managed to make it to day 5 of the my favorite things camp create challenge – the best kind of camping: staying indoors and creating.

the theme for the last day is Camp Create – Spectacular Shakers. it was a good learning experience since i don’t make shaker cards very often; i should’ve used more colourful seed beads against a white background instead of mostly clear sequins against the purple, which barely shows. i used the MFT Die-namics Hello There and it was a fun card to make and i have another card for my stash. thanks for popping by.

MFT Camp Create Day 2

i made this card for day 2 of the my favorite things: Camp Create – Sensational Sliders or use an action wobble, which is what i used – they’re so much fun.

since i can never have enough bunny images, i watercoloured one of the cute bunnies from the MFT Snuggle Bunnies clear stamp set and the sky with my twinkling H2Os and i used the Die-namics Blueprints 9 to create this tag; of course i added white flocking for the tail. thanks for popping by.

MFT Camp Create Day 1

i’m a slow card maker, usually because i love losing myself during the painting of images, but i also love time sensitive challenges that force me to create cards more quickly.

i made this notecard for the my favorite things day 1 challenge: Camp Create – Glitzy Glitter. i die cut the flower and leaves from Die-namics Blueprints 12 with double sided paper, covered them in loose glitter and popped it on foam tape. a fun and messy card. thanks for popping by.
