Happy Rudolph Days And Twinkling H2O Tips

it’s the 25th so i’m sharing my DT card for the monthly rudolph days challenge, which runs until the last day of the month. visit scrappymo’s blog to be inspired and have fun!

as usual, i painted the sky and this adorable Darcie’s reindeer with twinkling H2Os, added some snow, a snow drift and a die cut sentiment covered in stickles.

i’ve painted most of my images with twinkling H2Os for years; i love these shimmery watercolour paints! if you haven’t tried them yet, i’d like to share some tips to show you just how easy they are to use.

Twinkling H2O Tips:

  1. Activate: spritz the paint pot(s) to activate.
  2. Wait: put the kettle on and wait at least 5 minutes for the paint to get to a syrup consistency.
    twinkling H2Os paint pots
  3. Stamp: heat embossed images will help contain the paint in each section of an imagefor best results, use watercolour paper and a waterproof ink although twinks do blend well on kraft cardstock with a damp brush; too much water and the kraft paper will pill. the small image below measures 1″ wide by 2 1/4″ long and i painted it from dried palette paints that i reactivated.

  4. Mix: the paint in the pot needs to be evenly blended with the water.
  5. Paint: either direct from pot method for more intense colour or from a palette where you can add water and/or mix colours. A little goes a long way!
twinkling H2O paints on watercolour paper Any unused paint on a palette (disposable palette paper, plastic, or my preference – a white corelle sandwich plate used solely for my paints) can be covered (with a paper towel, wax paper or teflon sheet) when dry and reactivated later with a damp paint brush. twinkling H2O watercolour paints on a palette
  6. Store: if you do want to keep the lids on for storage, let the paint completely dry in the pot; otherwise the lids will glue shut.

12 Tags of Christmas with a Feminine Twist 2016 Day 1

i created another tag for Day 1 of the 12 Tags of Christmas with a Feminine Twist using the colour palette of red, teal, green and pink:

http://ellenhutson.typepad.com/the_classroom_new/2016/12/12-tags-of-christmas-with-a-feminine-twist-2016-meets-mix-it-up-challenge-day-1-by-laurel-beard-and-.html

i was inspired by both Laurel Beard and Sandy Allnock, who coloured images for their festive tags.

this time i painted a cute penny black image (love at xmas) with twinkling H2Os and winsor & newton watercolour paints. the background is painted with teal and i used a teal paper for the base; of course i added stickles for the snow and around the edge of the image and i added white flocking for the fur trim. the sentiment is a gold peel off that i coloured with a red permanent marker.

Jingle All The Way – Mixing It Up And Day 1 Tag

i’m off to a slow start, but i managed to create a tag for both Ellen Hutson’s December Mix It Up Challenge and Day 1 of the 12 Tags of Christmas with a Feminine Twist.

http://ellenhutson.typepad.com/the_classroom_new/2016/12/12-tags-of-christmas-with-a-feminine-twist-2016-meets-mix-it-up-challenge-day-1-by-laurel-beard-and-.html

since both Laurel Beard and Sandy Allnock used coloured images on their festive tags, i was inspired to do the same.

i painted everything with winsor & newton watercolour paints, using a light wash of teal in the background and it’s also used to create an ombre sentiment from the Essentials by Ellen Clear Stamps, All Inside by Julie Ebersole. i love Maude, an older Art Impressions cling stamp; i added pink stickles to her curlers and glossy accents to the smiley face.

Happy Holidays Tags

i created four tags using an older hero arts image and sentiment from one of the first sets i bought when i started card making and i still love it.

i coloured with derwent inktense pencils, added yellow stickles to the stars, some snow and finished them off with green ribbon. thanks to my new precision press, which i love, i added a sentiment and used it to stamp the to and from on the back.

i’d like to submit this tag to these challenges:
November Rudolph Days at Scrappy Mo’s: this year’s last monthly on the 25th
Crafty Ribbons – Christmas with Ribbon

Shiny Ornament Tag

i’m playing along with the lawnscaping challenge, No. 109, sparkle and shine, which i thought was perfectly suited to a christmas tag.

some of the sparkle and shine is not showing up in the photo, but i covered the ornaments with glossy accents, edged the top tag layer with stickles and painted the background with a gold twinkling H2O that really shimmers.

Penny Black And More Mid Month – So Sweet

a tender hug!

i had a lot of fun creating this DT card as a mid-month reminder for the penny black and more challenge; this month we’d like to see anything so sweet – images, food, etc. and to me, this is one of the sweetest penny black hedgie images and it’s called a tender hug! i watercoloured with twinkling H2Os, added yellow stickles to the flower centres and some punched flowers to the memory box corner die. be sure and visit the challenge blog for some creative inspiration from my talented team mates and to see what prizes are available; remember, you can use any company’s stamped image as the focal point, just no digis. thanks for popping by.

Traditional Christmas

memoryboxmc

Christmas Wreath

DSC01016
i’m really cutting it close to the deadline for this week’s cheery lynn design challenge to use borders and edgers. i cut the wreath strip border die 4 times and attached the branches to die cut circles; each layer was popped with foam tape and i added stickles and some red glass seed beads. i used the frame 141 window die to create the window panels, which i lightly sponged with distress ink and then i trimmed the window frame and attached it to another rectangle which is also on foam tape. finally, i added a red bow.

i’d also like to submit this to the one crazy stamper challenge christmas theme this month, the allsorts challenge theme of christmas cheer and the crafty calendar challenge november theme of all things christmas. thanks for popping by.

Yummy Cookies

card in blue and chocolate brown with jar of heart shaped cookies and hope your day is delicious sentiment
i’m playing along with the Your Next Stamp Tasty Tuesday Challenge, which provided an inspiration photo full of beautifully decorated chocolate/blue/vanilla cookies that look so yummy. i coloured the image with a paintbrush, distress ink pads and tombow marker, added stickles to the chocolate chips and border of the image, and popped it on foam squares. i stamped the sentiment and added a couple of gems to complete this CAS card. thanks for popping by.

Penny Black And More – Sew Special

card with girl sitting on ground holding an umbrella with a bird standing on her shoe holding a pink tulip for her with hearts gently falling next to it
it’s the first sunday of the month so it’s time for a new theme at the penny black and more challenge; it’s sew special – create a card or gift for someone special to you with the option of adding sewing, real or faux. sewing was one of my hobbies i gave up because of RA, so i used an image that already had stitching on it, plus i pierced some holes around the edge. i coloured with a paintbrush, distress ink pads and twinkling H2Os and i used marianne design dies to make the rolled flower, leaves and my favourite tag. you’ll want to visit our challenge blog for inspiration and rules, which are pretty simple – use any company’s stamped image for your focal point, just no digis.

i’d like to submit this to the going girly theme this month at marianne’s design divas.

ETA: i’m also adding this to the moxie fab world wonder of watercolor challenge. thanks for popping by.

Spring Is Here!

spring card with hedgehog peeking out of the ground and looking up at a tiny bee
welcome to my newest follower, jennifer! this is my march DT card for papercraft cafe; marie, the owner, has been patiently waiting for spring and we got snow today – luckily, it didn’t stay and i was able to make it to the store for some new goodies. i coloured this penny black image with distress ink pads and added stickles to the flower centres and bee.

i’m submitting this to these challenges:

ladybug crafts – spring ends march 24
without wordsends march 27

der challenge blog vom kreativeinkauf ends april 13

What’s Your Hobby?

butterflies in spring colours with a pink rose at the bottom right
in response to the current impression obsession challenge question, my one and only hobby is card making, specifically, stamping and colouring. severe RA (rheumatoid arthritis) forced me to give up all of my creative outlets until i discovered i could stamp and colour, which is my favourite technique. i love colouring with a traditional paint brush and anything dye based, especially distress inks, which is how i coloured this impression obsession Butterfly Group F8123 stamp. thanks for popping by.
