today’s card was created in memory of my son, who passed away ten years ago; it’s hard to believe so much time has passed while at other times it seems to stand still.
every year i focus on one memory and create a card around it. this penny black mo manning wizard resembles my son’s art, especially his comic book art and his colouring. gandalf came to mind; my husband took our son and daughter to see lord of the rings nine times when it first hit theatres in december 2001. yes, big tolkien fans so i had to use gold mirri for one of the mats.
i painted the sky and image on hot press watercolour paper with custom colours i mixed of twinkling H2Os. to this day, i thank my son for sharing his art supplies with me, especially a watercolour paint brush and some of the ‘rules’ along with a lot of encouragement. i got messy and created the background with alcohol inks.
i’m sharing my card with these challenges:
Challenge #280 Anything “Mo” Goes (Optional Theme: “For the Boys/Guys”)
As You Like It Challenge Favourite Stamp Brand (& why): if i could only pick one brand, i’d choose penny black as it was my first clear stamp set. i love the quality of the illustrations and the cute critters make me smile while i’m painting them – sometimes, they’re a bit mischievous which makes them all the more entertaining. also, i like that a lot of the images are generously sized so that my style allows them to be a major part of the card’s focus. i’m fortunate to be a design team member for the penny black and more challenge where we all share our love of penny black stamps.
thanks for popping by.
Absolutely awesome card and comic book style colouring, and such a beautiful tribute. Yep, major Tolkien fans. Haha. Big hugs 🤗!!
A beautiful card and such a wonderful way to celebrate your son. Thank you for sharing your thoughts .i could not imagine the grief a mother goes through on loosing a child but feel a little more understanding now as I go through the days trying to deal with the loss of mum and now dad. My heart goes out to you Linda. Your card is beautiful
A really fabulous creation, superb colouring and lovely background.
So very sorry for your loss, it must be very hard for you.
I love Lord of the Rings, I have read the book over and over again, the first time I borrowed it from my Nephew and could not put it down and then had to buy it so I could read it as many times as I wanted to. Great film too, I couldn’t wait for it to come out.
