the less is more challenge this week is a one layer card with the theme of ‘in the frame.’ since i watercolour 99.9% of my cards, because of my hands, this was a real challenge for me. the card base is watercolour paper; i inked the image with three different distress inks, lightly spritzed it and stamped it – done. i feel like i cheated; i didn’t actually paint an image. lol. thanks for popping by.
Hedgies’ Gift

this week’s penny black saturday challenge is ‘for the guys.’ the image is watercoloured, die cut and attached to a crumpled and sanded die cut piece of paper. i distressed the edges of the dotted layer and i had to add stickles somewhere, so they’re on the dots of the gift and the flower centres. i’m also submitting this to the simon says stamp and show your distressed/torn edges. thanks for popping by.
Field Of Poppies

this month’s stampalot challenge is an inspiration photo. the may issue of cardmaking & papercraft contained a free package of papers and one of the sheets just happened to have poppies and daisies on it. i die cut the paper, shaded a bit with coloured pencils and added black stickles to the poppy centres and yellow stickles to the daisy centres. i lightly sponged the edges and attached it to a layer that was embossed with the textile folder and also lightly sponged. thanks for popping by.
Dotted ATC
i was inspired by my daughter to create this; she’s the artist who encourages me to try new media for the sheer joy of it and not to worry about the artistic outcome; she’s right – art is subjective anyway. also, after seeing sandra’s ATCs, i had to try one, so this is my first; ok, the first one that i’m willing to share. i spent some time last night working on a couple of different designs on these small spaces. i’m submitting this to two challenges: the flutterby wednesday polka dot theme and the penny black saturday doodling challenge. thanks for popping by.
Snail’s Portrait

choosing my favourite penny black stamp was challenging, but i decided to use this portraiture stamp for penny black at allorts‘ june challenge – you’re my favourite. i decided to use some of my other favourites on this card: i watercoloured the image, including the sky, with distress inks; added white liquid pearls to snail’s dots; stickles on the sun; my favourite new punch on the pink layer; and pink and green. i’m also submitting this to the monthly fan club challenge at splitcoaststampers.
as i was painting this morning, the mail arrived with the penny black stamp i won last month and this cute card from brenda. thanks so much!

thanks for popping by.
Same Image, Different Layout
the hero arts’ june challenge to watercolour was posted the day after i posted my CAS card using this same image, so i made a new card. i watercoloured with distress inks and markers, added a lot of stickles, and popped the image on foam tape. the pink ribbon with gold thread shows up much better in real life. thanks for popping by.
More Or Less My Christmas Card

the less is more challenge this week is to pick one of 5 squares and leave the rest of the white space alone. my first card is still a work in progress; i really tried to fit the image in the lower right, but it just looked off balance. in my mind’s eye, it would work with a one layer, so in 5 minutes i made this. since i’m so far behind in the monthly christmas card challenge, you might see a lot more like this. thanks for popping by.
Colour Challenge Card
i never seem to have the right colours to play along with splitcoastampers‘ colour challenge, but i used substitute colours that i think are close enough. the base is a very dark boysenberry, which might explain why the photo looks a bit blurry? sometimes red card stock is tricky. anyway, the image is watercoloured, die cut and popped on foam tape; of course i had to add stickles to the flower centres and dots on the frame. thanks for popping by.
Pink Daisies For Class
this is the other card that i taught yesterday in my watercolouring with distress inks class at papercraft cafe. i only had two participants this time, but it allowed for more individual attention. it was a lot of fun; the ladies were so enthusiastic and it was nice to see how happy they were with their cards. the impression obsession daisies were over stamped with the penny black text background and the punched border is made with my new ek success punch; i love it. thanks for popping by.
Butterfly Kisses
this week’s flutterby wednesday challenge is clean and simple. i think this is the largest card i’ve made; it’s 5 1/4″ x 6 1/4″ to accommodate this image, which is watercoloured and the edges are lightly sponged. my blogging buddy, sandra, let me know about the less is more challenge, which is butterflies this week, so i’m playing in that one for the first time. i’m also playing along with the get hippity with ippity challenge. thanks for popping by.
Skies Of Blue
this week’s penny black saturday challenge is fussy and fancy, so this what i fussed over all morning. i watercoloured the image, covered it in glossy accents and stamped the penny black text background over it. i sponged the edge of the die cut image, the round doily and die cut a second doily. i made tiny faux dew drops out of bits of paper and glossy accents, used the bow-easy and added a button to the bow. the inside is actually finished as well.
i’m also submitting this to the splitcoaststampers’ monthly fan club theme. thanks for popping by.
Hey There!
A Cozy Breakfast
the penny black at allsorts monthly challenge is to create anything but square or rectangle and i love making circle cards. i watercoloured the image, covered the button in glossy accents and kept it fairly simple because i’m giving this one to my husband. for 36 years, he has carried on his family’s long standing tradition of making soft boiled eggs for sunday breakfast. thanks for popping by.
Spring Blossoms
this week’s penny black saturday challenge is clean and simple, which i think is the perfect layout for this watercoloured penny black image; i added peony pink flower soft for the flower soft spring challenge and i’m also submitting this to splitcoaststampers‘ monthly fan club challenge. if only spring weather would arrive, the picture might be a little more clear. thanks for popping by.
In Anne’s Honour

i created this card for my friend, anne, who is splitcoaststampers‘ Queen For The Day; it was anne who started this fun game just over a year ago. i cased this card from her gallery, but i used the penny black snail stamp and watercoloured the image. thanks for popping by.
Fluttering Friends
i created this card for the ‘magical worlds’ theme at the may sir stampalot challenge and for the open theme of the flutterby wednesday challenge. i watercoloured the image, distressed the edges of the die cut and text layers and added a pleated flower. of course i added stickles to the fairy’s wings and butterfly. thanks for popping by.
Bee Friend

i created this for the Ladybug Crafts Ink Going Dotty Challenge and the monthly fan club theme challenge at splitcoaststampers. the image is watercoloured, pierced and stickles were added to the wings. thanks for popping by.
Simple Thank You

well this won’t happen very often, but i managed to make another card today. the penny black at allsorts theme this month is black and white plus one, which i struggled with until now. i stamped the sentiment and the butterflies, which were stamped off first. i’m also submitting this to flutterby wednesday and the splitcoaststampers‘ monthly fan club theme. thanks for popping by.
Love Notes
this week’s penny black saturday challenge theme is Happily Ever After, because of the royal wedding; but it can be wedding, anniversary or just love related, which is what my card is. i coloured the image with coloured pencils, sponged the mat layers and added stickles to the hearts. the background is stamped with the damask heart from the same penny black set. thanks for popping by.
Party Balloons For Class

this is one of the cards that i taught in my watercolouring class this afternoon at the papercraft cafe. participants learned how to paint the balloons and the stripes with distress inks; it was a lot of fun. thanks for popping by.
Fruit Punch

this week’s flower soft challenge, #27, is sweet treats (anything food related), so the orange slice is my taste of sweetness with flower soft on the edge. i also used white polar soft on the rim of the glass, which is full of fruit punch. i watercoloured the images and cut out and popped the orange. thanks for looking.
Hedgie’s Egg Haul

i can hardly believe that it’s been a year since i started playing along with the penny black saturday challenge. i’ve been pushed outside my comfort zone at times, but it has helped me grow as a stamper. this week’s theme is easter extravaganza and i think this hedgie image fits perfectly; i just can’t decide if he’s found all those eggs or if he’s going to help to hide them. :) i watercoloured the image, die cut it and popped it on foam dots; added a ribbon, button and sentiment tag and it was done. i’m also submitting this to the stampin’ royalty challenge to watercolour and the monthly splitcoaststampers fan club challenge. thanks for popping by.
Vintage Lady

it’s sir stampalot challenge’s one year birthday this month and they are celebrating with extra prizes. if you like challenges, you’ll love this one – match a photo and tiny piece of card to the design team member. i created this card for the april theme of ladies and fashion; my image is watercoloured, the edges distressed and pearls added. thanks for popping by.
Have A Special Day
when i first noticed flourishes stamps at splitcoaststampers, they were not available in canada; now they are! this is for the april flourishes bring back beautiful challenge – the beauty of spring colours. i watercoloured the iris, pierced the corners of the die cut image and popped it on foam tape. i pierced the sentiment circle, added pearls and sponged the edge; the bow was made with the bow easy. i’m also submitting this to the splitcoaststamper’s monthly fan club theme. thanks for popping by.
Spring Daze

this week’s penny black saturday challenge is to say it with flowers and i love this little hedgie, which means a quick and simple card. i watercoloured the hedgie, sky and grass, and added stickles to the flower centres and the bee. the image was die cut, mounted on foam tape and done. i’m also submitting this to the stamping royalty spring has sprung challenge. it is spring, isn’t it? why do we still have cool weather? thanks for popping by.
Watercolour With Distress Inks Class
this afternoon was the first time i taught a ‘watercolouring with distress inks’ class at the Papercraft Cafe in kingsville, ontario. what a fun group of ladies; we made this cookie jar card, using these cute images from your next stamp company and the second class card was this bunny card. thanks for popping by.
Bubble Mouse

i want to thank those of you who recently subscribed to my blog, as well as those who pop by on a regular basis; i’m honoured that you want to see what i’m creating. i guess i owe some of you an apology for enabling you to buy these adorable penny black stamps; what can i say? they make me smile. :)
this week’s penny black saturday challenge is a fun sketch from design team member DOMI. i watercoloured the image, added liquid pearls to her dress, a glaze pen to the bubbles and stickles to the balloon, almost none of which really shows because there’s no sun here today again. thanks for popping by.
Spring Chicks
Egg Hunt Time!
i love making tiny cards, so when i saw that irene, aka DandI93, was today’s featured stamper at splitcoaststampers, i made this 3.5″ tall card in her honour. irene’s gallery is full of beautiful easel cards and tiny cards too. the image, a RAK from sue, aka irishgreensue, is watercoloured and of course i had to add stickles. the pink is not really as bright as in the photo; it’s so dull today – where is the spring weather?! thanks for popping by.
Hey, Ewe!

this week’s penny black saturday challenge theme is recycling. the green plaid corners and border are leftover pieces from last week’s pbsc card; plus, wool is recycled from sheep. :) my friend, anne, knows how much i love penny black stamps, so she sent me this stamp at christmas – thanks, anne! i watercoloured the ewe and covered it in flower soft. i stamped the head twice, popped it on top and added flower soft grass. the sentiment is hand printed with a marker.
i’m also submitting this to the Spotted Canary Spring Challenge and two Flower Soft challenges: the March monthly and the furry friends weekly. thanks for popping by.
Happy Spring!
finally, spring is sprung, which is the theme for this week’s penny black saturday challenge and i followed the sketch at this week’s flutterby wednesday challenge. i’m also submitting this to the spotted canary spring challenge at splitcoaststampers and the monthly flower soft challenge. the image is watercoloured, popped on foam tape and flower soft was added to the tail and grass. thanks for popping by.
Garden Goodies

i made this for these challenges: spotted canary spring, march flower soft, and DYSU to add a bow. the image is watercoloured, popped on foam tape and flower soft added to his tail. thanks for popping by.
Green Tea

to celebrate my irish heritage, i made some green tea for the green theme this week at the penny black saturday challenge. and, just to take me out of my clean and simple comfort zone, i followed the sketch saturday challenge. the image is watercoloured and popped on foam tape. thanks for popping by.
A Royal Hello
i was inspired by splitcoaststampers’ queen for the day jill’s bright and colourful card that just popped off the screen; i tried to duplicate the colours, but my first case ended up in the trash so i changed the colours. the image is watercoloured and a small punched butterfly was added. thanks for popping by.
Where Are Those Eggs?

this month’s forever friends challenge is to create a card without using designer papers, which is how i started making cards; but i’ve been using papers more and more, so it actually was a challenge! everything in the image panel is watercoloured and flower soft was added to teddy’s tail. i’m also submitting this to the flower soft monthly and easter challenges and the spotted canary spring challenge at splitcoaststampers. thanks for popping by.
