Penny Black And More Mid September – Autumn Colours

i don’t know where the time goes; it just flies by doesn’t it? the stores are full of halloween candy already!

penny black halloween

this is my mid-month reminder card for the penny black and more challenge; i watercoloured this image from the penny black ‘scary halloween’ clear set with twinkling H2Os, stamped the cobweb from the same set, and used letters die cut from impression obsession alphabet die. i’d also like to remind you that you can use any company’s image for your focal point, just no digis. for all the rules and some beautiful fall projects by my team mates, visit the blog. thanks for popping by.

Penny Black And More September – Autumn Colours

it’s the first sunday of september and time for a new theme at the penny black and more challenge. this month, we’d like to see autumn colours. for my DT card, I stamped the penny black autumn tree cling stamp and watercoloured it with derwent inktense pencils; i used twinkling H2Os for the sky, ground and the die cut letters, which are impression obsession.

Christmas Treat Boxes

i used my scor-pal to create these triangle boxes for the scor-pal august challenge: “more than one score” – food for thought. these are so quick to make and the size can be easily changed to fit any treat; these will hold a small amount of hershey kisses. i just added stamped and matted sentiments and ribbon.

Exciting News!

i am so excited to share that i’ve been invited to join the design team for cuddly buddly’s new clear stamp line. you can see the adorable penguin digi image i used in the post below; it was so much fun to colour and i’m looking forward to working with their clear stamps. thank you to kim for the invitation and warm welcome!

Visit the blog for some very creative and inspirational projects and check out the shop for a variety of supplies!

Christmas Penguin

i’m starting to make more christmas cards because in only three months they’ll need to be mailed out. i used this Pachela Studios Digital Stamp available at the Cuddly Buddly shop, but it’s also available in a clear stamp set.

cuddlybuddlypenguin

it was a lot of fun colouring this adorable image; i watercoloured the sky, penguin and tree with twinkling H2Os, added snow and popped it on foam tape. the snowflake border is a memory box die and the papers are from carta bella; i’m glad i bought two of those paper pads because i love the colours. thanks for popping by.

One Of A Kind

i’m playing along with the 101 waterolour challenge; over the next couple of weeks we’ll be playing with masks, so this week’s assignment is to create watercolor backgrounds with the assistance of background stamps and embossing powder. i watched all three videos linked from class and i decided to use the technique from catherine pooler’s tutorial; since my painting is controlled, i liked the more controlled look of her sample.

hero arts background

i bought this hero arts background stamp with my daughter in mind because i knew she’d love the pattern and shamefully, this is the first time i’ve used it. i heat embossed with white ep and i only used a yellow and a blue twinkling H2O and let them naturally turn into green in spots; it’s matted on green card stock because that’s my daughter’s favourite colour. i heat embossed the sentiment on vellum, attached die cut hearts out of the same painted paper and some gems. thanks for popping by.

Penny Black And More Mid August

just to let you know that there is still plenty of time to play along with this month’s penny black and more challenge theme of anything goes to have a chance of winning some fabulous prizes!

COPYRIGHT LINDA @ SNAILZPACE.WORDPRESS.COM

for my DT card i used another of the cute bunny images from the garden critters clear stamp set that i watercoloured with twinkling H2Os; the sentiment is from the micey day set. be sure to check out the challenge blog for the design team’s inspiring creations and remember you can use any company’s stamped image for your focal point, just no digis. thanks for popping by.

Bunny Thank You

one of my daughter’s bunnies had a couple of teeth pulled so i made this card for her to give to one of the vets; he’s a specialist. the impression obsession challenge is clean and simple which is perfect – a masculine CAS card is all i needed. i coloured the background and the IO resting rabbit (D8380) with twinkling H2Os, traced over the grass with a derwent inktense pencil and added flower soft to his tail.

i’m also playing along with 101: watercolour and this week’s theme is fun time; i always enjoy losing myself in my watercolouring.

Christmas Stocking

the current jingle belles prompt is to shape up for the holidays and create a shaped card. i found this stocking pattern from the very talented katherine frei, who made a christmas stocking gift card holder; mine is just the card with the fold at the top that i’ll give to my dad. you can see the inside which is covered in brown paper with a deer print.

Salty Snow Globe

this week’s 101:water-color assignment is to use the salt watercolour technique in an embellishment/focus point.

101WCgame02

memory box snow globe

i kind of jumped ahead last week when i used my salt watercolour leaves as my focal point, but luckily, i had leftover twinkling H2O bits so i used them to create the trees for the snow globe. this week i created the sky and woodgrain trim with my caran d’ache water-soluble wax-pastels and sea salt, both die cut with the memory box snow globe die and popped on foam squares; the stars were die cut from a twinks/salt wash. i added some details to the tiny snowmen, also a memory box die and i added the ribbon and MFT Die-namics snowflake. thanks for popping by.

Anything Goes At Penny Black And More – August

it’s time for a new challenge theme at penny black and more and it’s a very easy one this month – anything goes! as always, you can use any company’s stamped image for your focal point, just no digis. visit the blog for some very creative creations by my teamies, the rules and to see what fabulous prizes we have. COPYRIGHT LINDA @ SNAILZPACE.WORDPRESS.COM i watercoloured this cute bunny from the penny black garden critters clear set with twinkling H2Os, sponged the edges with distress ink and popped it on foam squares. the sentiment is from the penny black every happiness cling set and stamped on a MFT Die-namics banner with a tiny butterfly from memory box. i hope you’ll play along. thanks for popping by.

Merry Christmas

i’m really cutting it close to the deadline, 1 hour from now, for the jingle belles prompt to use the challenge blog header, created by lauren, as your inspiration and sandra’s rudolph day challenge to create two or more christmas cards on the 25th of every month. i cased a card i made last year and used hologram and glitter paper for the poinsettias, cut the memory box merry christmas, layered it over glitter paper and added some pearls; a quick and easy card.

A Dash Of Salt

i’m excited about a brand new weekly challenge called 101: watercolor :102 that will focus on watercolor techniques with weekly assignments so you can practice and submit your outcome.

although i watercolour my images, i don’t always use the techniques, so this week’s assignment to use salt was a refreshing change; i sprinkled fairly coarse sea salt on my wash of three different twinkling H2O greens, let it dry and then die cut the leaves with a memory box die. unfortunately, i need a sympathy card so i used a sentiment from an impression obsession clear stamp set. thanks for popping by.

Penny Black And More – July Mid Month Reminder

we’re half way through july so you still have plenty of time to play along with the dies and punches theme this month at the penny black and more challenge. remember, you can use any company’s stamped image as your focal point, just no digis. visit the blog to view some beautiful creations by my team mates and to see the fabulous prizes on offer from some generous sponsors.

i watercoloured this sweet image from the Penny Black tiny wishes clear stamp set with Twinkling H2Os, added yellow stickles to the flower centres and used a MS eyelet punch for the borders. the sentiment is die cut from the Penny Black wishes die set. thanks for popping by.

Shopping My Christmas Stash

the jingle belles are holding a special crossover event with the shopping our stash challenge so i went digging through my holiday stash and found this 3 year old molly blooms gingerbread stamp that, shamefully, i’ve not used yet.

COPYRIGHT LINDA @ SNAILZPACE.WORDPRESS.COM

i watercoloured him with distress ink pads and tombow markers, painted the sky and added snow and i edged the shape with stickles. i found this 1 year old paper to pair him with and i have a christmas card for my husband.

i’d also like to submit this card to the sweet stamping – christmas in july theme. thanks for popping by.

Colours of Summer

i created this card for the impression obsession challenge – colours of summer and i was inspired by IO design team member kittie; she creates beautiful scenes with so much dimension and attention to detail.

COPYRIGHT LINDA @ SNAILZPACE.WORDPRESS.COM

i painted the sky with twinkling H2Os and also painted some swatches of twinks to die cut the small bird set DIE154-A and the flowers and leaves using the petals from the hydrangea set DIE044-Y. i lightly sponged two of the bunnies from the rabbit set DIE168 and used some woodgrain paper to die cut the birdhouse set DIE156-H. i added colour to the bunnies with derwent inktense pencils, yellow stickles to the flower centres and strips of green corrugated paper. thanks for popping by.

Spontaneous Fun

my colouring of images is usually controlled, but i was inspired by this week’s CASE Study challenge to play with my twinkling H2Os more spontaneously. i love the watercoloured panel of brightly coloured circles by muse shari carroll so i started by die cutting bubble wrap in three different circle sizes – not all of them popped through the big shot, which is how i ended up with solid and splotchy circles; besides, the plastic resisted the paint in spots. the circle edges were painted freehand.

COPYRIGHT LINDA @ SNAILZPACE.WORDPRESS.COM

i die cut and shaped two spellbinders rose creations flowers and splattered them with the twinks and went back to my controlled painting to create the lavender wash and die cut a rectangle. the memory box hello and the flower centre were die cut with yellow designer paper and everything was matted and layered. for me, it was more about the process than the end result. thanks for popping by.

Simple Thank You

i needed another thank you card and i was inspired by the sketch at the stick it down challenge blog to create this one. i got brave and stamped the flourishes sentiment directly on the paper for a change; there’s a coordinating thank you sentiment on the inside. i applied a bit of gesso to the marianne designs flower and leaves and i was done in record time. i might just have to make a set of these.

Penny Black And More July – Dies And Punches

it’s the first sunday of july already and time for a new penny black and more challenge theme; this month, we’re challenging you to use those dies and punches. as always, you can use any company’s stamped image as your focal point, just no digis. there are some fabulous prizes on offer from some generous sponsors so i hope to see you join in. visit the blog to view some beautiful creations by my team mates and to find complete details.

penny black and more strawberry mice

i watercoloured this sweet image from the Penny Black homemade clear set with distress ink pads and twinkling H2Os. i used a couple of die cuts on this card: the Marianne Design button flower, cut with chipboard and white card stock; My Favorite Things Die-namics banners; nestabilities squares for the image and mat and i used an EK Success eyelet punch for the borders. i created the tablecloth with a stencil and a paintbrush.

i’d like to submit this card to these challenges:

One Lucky Chick

you might remember that i recently purchased some from the heart digital birdbrain images and this little cutie was free with a purchase. since i need a birthday card for someone who loves all things irish, it’s perfect. this week’s twist is to not use designer paper/just cardstock. i tried. it’s funny that when i first started making cards about six years ago, almost all of my cards were clean and simple and designer paper intimidated me – so many patterns and colours; and now i’m challenged by CAS.

i {heart} card sketches w/ a tWiSt #no.73:

i watercoloured the image with twinkling H2Os and literally followed the sketch. thanks for popping by.

Thank You

i created this card for the june magenta challenge: school’s out so i thought the magenta thank you sentiment would be appropriate, along with the apple themed papers that i’ve had in my stash for quite some time. the darker apples in the bottom row are pink foil, although the shine doesn’t show in this photo.

Magenta Thanks

the card measures 4 1/4″ square and it’ll be added to my stash. thanks for popping by.

thinking of you

i’m playing along with cardabilities for the first time. i just love this sketch, although i knew it would be a real challenge and it was; it took me way out of my comfort zone. i usually spend up to a couple of hours watercolouring images and then more time planning layouts that are pretty basic with minimal embellishments.

DSC01393

i used a jar lid and gesso to create the circles, which you can barely see and then i built the layers with some new dies. i sponged the flower edges, added stickles to the tiny green flower centres and added the sentiment. i really enjoyed the process and i’ll be sending this card to someone who will undergo surgery next week. thanks for popping by.

Lemonade Mice

i’m playing along with the “More Than One Score” Scor-pal Challenge #5 and this month’s theme of bright and sunny. I searched for quick and easy cards since i was short on time and i found this cute card by Diane Zechman so i used my Scor-pal and cased the design; i tried to change the pointed edge with a die cut shape, but none would fit.

i watercoloured these Penny Black images with Twinkling H2Os, Derwent Inktense Pencils and Distress Ink pads; i cut the lemons out since i used watercolour paper and used a velcro closure on the flap; this was a fun card to make.

EDIT: i was lucky enough to be a top three and last month’s scor-pal challenge winner for this card and my prize arrived just after i posted this today – thanks so much scor-pal for the Scor-Buddy and roll of tape!

thanks for popping by.

In Loving Memory

copyright linda @ snailzpace.wordpress.com and made in memory of my son

i made this card in memory of my son who passed away five years ago today. i don’t know where the time went, other than i’ve been lost in a world of papercrafting that has helped me to have something to focus on and feel somewhat productive. my husband used to make up adventurous stories about a snail when our son was young, so i sewed him a snail from blue and white striped flannel that was well loved. as i coloured this image with twinkling H2Os, i recalled the many hours my artist son would colour with coloured pencils, usually colouring his hand drawn comical characters – he had quite an imagination. and, even though he teased me, he was just as picky about colouring his images. thanks for popping by.

Birthday Bird

Sketch070-558x720

birdbrain.bday

i’m playing along with this week’s i {heart} card sketches w/ a tWiSt #no.70. the bird is coloured with distress ink pads and twinkling H2Os and both the image and hearts are popped on foam tape; i coated the candle with glossy accents. i reached a milestone birthday this week and i was kind of dreading it, but someone reminded me that it’s just a number – maybe i feel older than the number. lol. thanks for popping by.

Penny Black And More Favourite Stamp

penny black painting hedgehog

it’s hard to believe that it’s june already and time for a new penny black and more challenge. it was difficult to choose one favourite stamp, but i love this penny black portraiture stamp because hedgie is doing what i love to do – paint; i watercoloured everything with distress inks but i added a twinkling H2O to the snail’s shell.

check out the blog to see the lovely creations by my team mates and the fabulous prizes on offer. Remember, you can use any company’s stamp as a focal point, just no digis. So, what’s your favourite stamp? Come and play!

Under The Feather

Sketch068-387x500 DSC01360 i just bought some of these cute birdbrain chick digi images and i had so much fun watercolouring this poor sick chick with my twinkling H2Os. i followed this week’s from the heart stamps challenge no. 68, (i rotated it) and used one of two sentiments that came with the image. i’d also like to submit this to addicted to stamps challenge 97 make your mark and paper crafting challenges – my favourites are watercolouring cute and whimsical images. thanks for popping by.

Peaceful Holiday Wishes

wishing you i’ve missed playing along with some of my favourite christmas card challenges, but thanks to my favorite things die-namics blueprints sketches, this one didn’t take much time, something i don’t seem to have enough of lately. the jingle belles are celebrating PEACE …incorporate a Peace Symbol or the word PEACE into your design … or you can create a card that evokes Peace for you and these soft and muted colours do that for me; the sentiment is computer generated. i did a lot of sponging and added stickles to the flower centres. sandra’s rudolph day challenge is to create two or more holiday cards so the photo below shows the two together. i’d also like to submit this card to one crazy stamper – anything goes and an embellishment. thanks for popping by.

wishing you two

Chef Teddy

Wild Rose Studio Chef Teddy

i needed to add a birthday card to my stash so i watercoloured this cute wild rose studio teddy clear stamp with distress ink pads and twinkling H2Os and used a wild rose studio sentiment. the looped heart border is one of the impression obsession dies that i chose when i recently won a gift certificate by playing along with their challenges.

i’d like to submit this card to these challenges:

papertake weekly – ohhh so cute
creative knockouts – colouring show off
feeling crafty – one for the girls/ladies
always something creative – birthday
natalie and amy’s challenge – rubber stamping
papercrafting challenges – my faves are watercolouring cute and whimsical images, dies, minimal embellishments
allsorts – happy birthday as they celebrate their 5th bday
one crazy stamper – anything goes and an embellishment

thanks for popping by.

Penny Black Botanical Notes

i created a z-fold card with my scor-pal for my mid month DT creation; this month’s penny black and more challenge theme is anything goes.

copyright-linda-snailzpace-wordpress-com-penny-black-botanical-notes-1
i love this penny black ‘botanical notes’ cling stamp because of the collage image that i always seem to have trouble creating. i watercoloured with distress ink pads, then stamped the flower twice more to cut and layer it. the thank you was die cut from my new penny black creative die set and a marianne design leaf flourish die. be sure to check out the beautiful creations from my team mates and the fabulous prizes on offer at the penny black and more challenge blog and remember, you can use any company’s stamped image as your focal point, just no digis.

i’d like to submit this card to these challenges:

Scor-pal – more than one fold with a stamped image
Crafty Little Fairies – In the Garden
A Little Bit Crafty – Flower Power
Country View Craft’s Challenge – Nature’s glories
One Crazy Stamper – Anything Goes & an Embellishment

thanks for popping by.

Stencilled Flowers

magenta stencil
oh my goodness, it felt so good to have some creating time. i sponged distress inks through the magenta stencil, splattered and lightly sponged around the image panel and card panel. the DP had red leaves printed across the bottom so i sponged through a different image from the same stencil to create the bottom border.  i’m so used to watercolouring images that i was surprised by how much faster this was. i’m submitting this card to magenta’s may challenge theme of anything goes! and also to A Little Bit Crafty – Flower Power.

thanks for popping by.

Penny Black And More Anything Goes

penny black wonderful

this is my DT card for the may penny black and more challenge theme of anything goes. I coloured this hedgie image from the penny black wonderful 30-029 clear set with distress ink pads and derwent inktense pencils; the sentiment is hero arts. i doodled some grass and lightly sponged the edge of the image panel, which is popped on foam tape.

head over to the blog to see the creative cards my team mates have come up with and to find the rules: remember, you can use any company’s stamp as your focal point, just no digis, and you’ll be eligible to win some fabulous prizes. also, one lucky participant using a penny black image will be chosen to be a guest designer for an upcoming challenge. i hope you’ll join in.
