Dreaming Geraniums

card with pot of pink geraniums and sleeping bunny next to the pot on the ground
i created this card because marie, the owner of my local stamp store, papercraft cafe, asked me to make some samples for a home and garden show that she’s participating in. i thought this cute penny black ‘dreaming geraniums’ would suit the occasion so i coloured with distress inks as usual, added yellow stickles to the flower centres and added a rafia strip to the bottom and threaded it through the button. the sketch is by the very talented Silke Ledlow, who is hosting this month at crazy 4 challenges. thanks for popping by.

Waiting For Snow

christmas card with snowman in snow globe with purple toque and purple papers with white snowflakes
i’m always making christmas cards, although i make more than i actually need so i usually donate some to my local hospital. i coloured this older impression obsession snowman with distress inks and letraset aqua markers, die cut with the memory box snow globe and added a peel off sentiment, punched snowflakes and tiny bow. i’m submitting it to these challenges:
sandra’s rudolph day – the 25th of every month
jingle belles – holiday bingo and i used bling, stickers and ribbon
crafty ann’s – christmas in august
christmas stampin’ all year long – non traditional colours
challenge up your life – christmas in summer
thanks for popping by.

Summer Cycling

card in brown and orange with girl in orange dress rding a blue bicyclethis oh so cute penny black ‘mimi’ stamp, a birthday gift from my friend anne, was so much fun to colour; as usual, i used distress inks to colour with and sponge the edges of everything. one of the two marianne design die cut flowers is popped on foam squares and a marianne design die cut tag is tucked in behind; the scallop border is a spellbinders die. i’m participating in these challenges:
marianne’s design divas – summer
everybody art challenge – summer
bunny zoe’s – summer
the crafty pad designs – to die for
stamptacular sunday – let’s hear it for the girls
thanks for popping by.

I Love Vellum!

card with vellum butterfly in teal on a teal patterned paper circlei don’t use it very often, but i just love vellum so i heat embossed this hero arts butterfly on vellum, coloured it with distress inks, cut it out by hand and popped it on a foam square. i followed another Hero Arts CAS sketch for their august contest and i’m also submitting this to the open theme of flutterby wednesday, which has just re-opened. thanks for popping by.

You’re The Best!

card with kraft base, heart and you're the best sentiment
i used this month’s hero arts sketch again, but this time to create this card for my husband. i’ve not been well for the past two weeks right after a month long RA flareup – he just steps in and takes care of everything and me so i thought the hero arts sentiment was perfect. i used foam tape to pop the die cut spellbinders heart and the memory box ticket, then sponged the edges of everything with vintage photo distress ink. thanks for popping by.

Inspired By Wedgwood

blue and white christmas card with snowman
i have an aunt who loves snowmen as much as i do, so when i saw stephanie’s sketch at the jingle belles challenge i knew i’d be checking off one more card from my list this year. i coloured my favourite snowman with distress inks and sponged with blue because my aunt loves wedgwood china. i’m also submitting this card to these challenges:

creative inspirations paint – inspired by monochromatic with a chance to win 5 jars of their paint
stampin’ for the weekend – monochromatic theme with a prize of a Simon Says Stamps voucher of $25
samuel taylor’s blue and white christmas card – there’s a fantastic prize of goodies, including a Marianne Designs Sleigh die

thanks for popping by.

Hi There!

teal card with hi there sentiment and layered diec cut flower
i followed the hero arts august sketch for this clean and simple card, die cut the flower, added gel dots to the ticket and followed kelly’s embossed button tutorial. i mentioned the other day how some paper crafting tools are not universally accessible to people with disabilities, so instead of the tweezers kelly used (which i own but can’t use), i found a toothpick worked nicely. i’m also submitting this to marianne’s design divas ‘anything goes’ challenge. thanks for popping by.

No Touch Typing Testing My Patience

hi everyone, as a person with a disability, i create when i can with what i can; you’d be surprised by some of the paper crafting tools that are not designed with universal access in mind. one major company even told me that if a child can do it, i should be able to; with that kind of attitude, chances are they’ll never work toward inclusivity.

commenting has been more difficult lately because of my hands, so i ordered voice recognition software and then a microphone, but i developed a rash, which may or may not be due to the materials so the company is sending me a replacement. in the meantime, i’m not using my software and that means i’ll fall even further behind. i always enjoy seeing your cards in my reader (when that behaves), so i just wanted to explain why i haven’t been around. once my new microphone arrives and i spend time on the learning curve, i’ll visit again. as always, thanks for popping by.

Penny Black And More – Whiskers and/or Wings

card in green, white and yellow with hedgehog on a swing and hugs and kisses sentiment

my DT card for the Penny Black and More august challenge is a gatefold for our Whiskers and/or Wings theme. a new sponsor, Flonz, generously provided the DT members with some stamps and i used the Flonz policeman and mermaid (corner stamp to create frame around image and sentiment). the penny black hedgie is from the garden friends set and coloured with distress inks and of course i added yellow stickles. you can find the challenge rules and the other DT creations here; there are some fabulous prizes to be won from sponsors Penny Black, Stampalot, Joanna Sheen, Crafts U Love, Flonz plus a chance to have your card chosen to be in the spotlight. thanks for popping by.

Acrostic With Magenta

acrostic on blue and ivory card with die cut flowers and butterflies
magenta’s 20th anniversary july challenge is ‘acrostic with magenta.’ i printed mine on magenta paper, matted with magenta papers and distressed the flowers, leaves and edges; this was such a fun project to create – english was always my favourite subject. i admit to not being able to live by this philosophy, especially this week – you know the ones where anything and everything goes wrong? bleh. thanks for popping by.

Exciting News

card with penny black hedgehog in a blue green watering can looking up at a pink daisy
marie, the owner of papercraft cafe has formed a monthly design team and invited me to join! i enjoyed teaching classes in colouring with distress inks this past year at the store, and you know how much i love (am obsessed with) colouring, so it’ll be fun to create cards for store displays. for my first DT card, i chose this penny black ‘yearning’ image and coloured with distress inks as usual; the sentiment and tag are from flourishes and the tiny butterflies are from my new favourite die – memory box. thanks for popping by.

It’s Santa!

green christmas card with santa image and happy holidays sentiment
sometimes i struggle when i want to play along with a challenge and i have nothing that fits the theme, but not this time. the jingle belles want to see santa or anything else you’d find at the north pole; i had no santa stamps until i luckily won this flourishes santa image last year from one of their challenges. i’m also playing along with the flourishes timeless tuesday christmas in july and this is my second entry to sandra’s rudolph day challenge. the image is stamped in sepia archival ink and i used coloured pencils on the holly and berries with distress ink sponged onto santa’s face. thanks for popping by.

Poppies

card with penny black poppies
brenda (floral fantasies)
is having a fun candy challenge to make a card or project that has poppies on it, hints at the colour or idea of poppies or an has an image coloured in with the beautiful poppy colours. i’ve had this penny black poppies stamp for some time, but this is the first time i inked it up; it’s coloured with distress inks and letraset aqua markers with stickles in the flower centres and i used my new memory box butterflies die – i love it! i cased a layout in paper creations summer 2012 by the talented kendra sand. thanks for popping by.

Green Christmas

christmas card in green and white in embossed swirl and holly pattern
five christmas cards in green and white with embossed holly and swirls
i don’t usually like making duplicates, but sandra’s rudolph day challenge to make six in june has inspired me to create more than one card at a time; it’s a great way to build my stash and it goes faster with CAS designs. this one took a bit longer than i thought it would because i cut the sentiment separately and added it on top; i also sanded the surface to reveal the white. the jingle belles challenge was to use red or green, but not both and it was very difficult to resist adding red to the berries, but i like the look. thanks for popping by.

Magenta On Vellum

card with floral image and butterfly stamped on blue vellum with a touch of pink ink
i’ve been playing along with the magenta monthly challenges in celebration of their 20th year and the june challenge is to use the colours of their logo. i stamped this magenta image on blue vellum, heat embossed and coloured with distress inks, which is what i enjoy doing most when i create; even if it’s just a little bit while i’m waiting for my RA flareup to disappear, so i’m also submitting this to the stampalot challenge ‘what’s your crafty passion’ theme. i couldn’t get a photo to show the embossed detail, which looks so much better in real life. thanks for popping by.

Flourishes Triple Play

card with cherries and happy day sentiment flourishes
with my RA flaring, all i could do this week is rest; you’d think by now that i would accept the fact that i have limitations, but i’m too stubborn for my own good. anyway, now that i’m feeling a bit better and ready to play again, i made this CAS card for the flourishes noon time challenge – triple play! i coloured the tiny cherries from the flourishes ‘tiny flowers and tags’ set with distress inks and a very tiny brush; the images are matted three times, with three strings of floss and three gems and the sentiment is from the same set. this is a smaller card at 3.25 by 4.5 inches. thanks for popping by.

Vintage Santa

vintage santa christmas card
i finally cut into my kaisercraft december 25th collection papers to create this card. after i trimmed the santa image, i punched holly and die cut the poinsettia from the same papers and added a gold glitter mat and gold stickles. i’m submitting this card to these challenges: the jingle belles’ vintage style, the paper players’ christmas in july and the christmas cards all year ’round, which is to include holly or poinsettia. thanks for popping by.

Penny Black And More Summer Blooms

card in yellow and black with penny black flower stamp
this is my DT card for the July Penny Black and More Challenge; this month we want to see Summer Blooms. i used a new penny black stamp from a clear set called flowers sweet, coloured with distress ink pads and added some mottled dots with my paintbrush. the other DT members’ beautiful creations and the challenge rules are here; there are some fabulous prizes to be won from sponsors Penny Black, Stampalot, Addicted to Stamps plus a chance to have your card chosen to be in the spotlight. thanks for popping by.

In The Dog House

card with penny black dog house image and inky antics sentiment
the current challenge at the paper and such design blog is to make a card featuring a snail or dog. i’ve made many snail cards, so this time i used a cute penny black dog stamp that was a gift from my friend, anne. everything is coloured with distress ink pads and the sentiment is inky antics. thanks for popping by.

Autumn Thank You

thank you card in fall colours with maple leaf pattern
i won a package of studio calico autumn papers from the scrapbooker’s paradise challenge on june 8 and i couldn’t have been more lucky; every fall i donate thank you cards for workshop speakers so i followed a sketch by DT member Allison, which is this week’s challenge. i resisted adding ribbon and a bow because they will be for both men and women; now i only have to make 9 more. thanks for popping by.

Tropical Christmas Bear

christmas card with polar bear and tropical colours
the current jingle belles challenge is to make your holidays hot, hot, hot so i used these colours and patterns and followed this previous sketch at the jingle belles. the bear is a sticker; there’s no colouring! surprised? when i don’t have time to colour images, i hunt for stickers. thanks for popping by.

Silly Birds On A Wire

four birds on a wire in pink, blue, yellow, green on a yellow card basei’ve had this magenta bird stamp for a while, so it’s about time i got around to inking it up; it’s coloured with marvy markers, sponged with distress ink and die cut and popped on foam tape. i love this embossing folder from my friend, anne, which i sanded after embossing. i’m submitting this card to these challenges:  paper and such design blog – our feathered friends, pixie dust challenge bird theme and crafty catz – embossing. thanks for popping by.

Guest Designer At Scrapbooker’s Paradise

i’m excited to be the guest designer this week at the playing in paradise challenge, which is to take your inspiration from this photo:

under the sea photo
card with an under the sea theme
i used the colours and theme to create this card for my husband for father’s day. the shells were stamped, coloured with distress inks, cut and popped on foam tape. the sea is painted with distress inks, which was covered on the bottom with embossing powder and enamel. finally, i added some cheesecloth, twine and a flourishes sentiment and tag. you’ll want to check out the inspiring DT creations at the scrapbooker’s paradise blog and i hope you can play along. thanks for popping by.

Popped For Flourishes

card with flourishes strawberry and you're so sweet sentiment
the first flourishes noon time challenge in anticipation of their june release is to pop it! i stamped the berry image on watercolour paper twice to cut and pop the leaves on a foam square; everything is coloured with distress inks and the frame is also popped on foam tape. thanks for popping by.

Purely Pink

magenta pink card with pink daisies and white trim
i really struggle with monochromatic cards, but i’ve been playing the monthly magenta challenges in celebration of their 20th anniversary year and the may challenge is to create a monochromatic card in magenta (pink). i heat embossed the image in white, coloured with distress ink pads and sponged around the image, which is popped on foam tape. thanks for popping by.
