Make A Wish – Penny Black And More

it’s the first sunday of a new month, august already, so we have a new theme at the Penny Black and More Challenge: For Boys and Men.

birthday card with spotted dog

i coloured this cute dog from the penny black birthday party set with caran d’ache luminance colour pencils on a light grey card stock this time; i’m testing them out on different papers. i used the avery elle wonky stitch die and added the sentiment.

our rules are easy – the focal point must be hand stamped and must follow the theme to be eligible for a prize from one of the generous sponsors: Penny Black, Crafts U Love plus A Clarity Art stencil.

thanks for popping by.

Strawberry Hedgies

this was a quick and easy card and fun to colour.

i stamped the penny black wood stamp ‘strawberry jam’ on kraft and coloured with caran d’ache luminance coloured pencils.

i was inspired by these challenges:

More Summer Colours At Penny Black And More

we’re about half way though july so there’s still time to join this month’s Penny Black and More Challenge: Summer colours theme.

card with mouse in hot air balloon masked throwing flowers

i painted this cute penny black mouse (30-020 hugs!) with twinkling H2Os on hot press watercolour paper and used summery pink and yellow papers from lawn fawn.

remember your creation must have a hand stamped focal point, although it can be any company’s image to be eligible for a prize from the generous sponsors: Penny Black, Stamp Addicts, Craft Stash.

Summer Colours At Penny Black And More

it’s the first sunday of a new month so we have a new theme at the Penny Black and More Challenge: show us your Summer Colours.

penny black summer copyright linda snailzpace.com

my summer colours are green grass and blue skies so i carried the sky in the image circle out to the front of the card. i painted this cute penny black mouse from the ‘critter fun’ set with twinkling H2Os and used the impression obsession die cut sentiment. the wonky stitches rectangle dies are new to me; i really liked them on my teamie’s cards; thanks ellie.

just a reminder that your focal point must be hand stamped, although you can use any company’s image to be eligible for one of the prizes from our generous sponsors: Penny Black, Stamp Addicts, Craft Stash.

In Loving Memory

today’s card was created in memory of my son, who passed away ten years ago; it’s hard to believe so much time has passed while at other times it seems to stand still.

wizard card in grey and purple

every year i focus on one memory and create a card around it. this penny black mo manning wizard resembles my son’s art, especially his comic book art and his colouring. gandalf came to mind; my husband took our son and daughter to see lord of the rings nine times when it first hit theatres in december 2001. yes, big tolkien fans so i had to use gold mirri for one of the mats.

i painted the sky and image on hot press watercolour paper with custom colours i mixed of twinkling H2Os. to this day, i thank my son for sharing his art supplies with me, especially a watercolour paint brush and some of the ‘rules’ along with a lot of encouragement. i got messy and created the background with alcohol inks.

i’m sharing my card with these challenges:

Challenge #280 Anything “Mo” Goes (Optional Theme: “For the Boys/Guys”)

As You Like It Challenge Favourite Stamp Brand (& why): if i could only pick one brand, i’d choose penny black as it was my first clear stamp set. i love the quality of the illustrations and the cute critters make me smile while i’m painting them – sometimes, they’re a bit mischievous which makes them all the more entertaining. also, i like that a lot of the images are generously sized so that my style allows them to be a major part of the card’s focus. i’m fortunate to be a design team member for the penny black and more challenge where we all share our love of penny black stamps.

thanks for popping by.

Happy 10th Birthday Allsorts!

wow, the Allsorts Challenge is celebrating ten years!

penny black mice birthday copyright linda snailzpace.com-1

naturally, the current theme is birthday so i got to use two more cute images from the penny black ‘it’s your day’ stamp set. this is my first project coloured with my new Caran D’ache Luminance Coloured Pencils. i will need to practice because they’re heavily pigmented compared to other coloured pencils i have so they require less effort, which is good.

i’m also playing along with the anything goes theme at Simon Says Wednesday.

thanks for popping by.

May Flower

just a reminder that there is still plenty of time to play along with the Penny Black and More Challenge and the feminine or anything goes theme.

i used this sweet image from a new penny black clear stamp set, 30-553 it’s your day, painted with twinkling H2Os on hot pressed watercolour paper and die cut with one of the dies in the mama elephant bookmark it set.

penny black mouse tag copyright linda snailzpace.com

to finish it off, i used the lawn fawn stitched rectangle die for the print paper.

you can use any company’s image to be eligible for a prize from the generous sponsors, as long as your focal point is hand stamped.

i’m playing along with these challenges:

Simon Says Wednesday – Stitches
Cute Card Thursday – #582 Stitching

thanks for popping by.

Burgundy Bookmark

since it’s the first sunday of a new month, we have a new theme at the Penny Black and More Challenge: Feminine with an anything goes option.

thank you bookmark copyright linda snailzpace.com

i used a penny black wooden stamp called ‘kindness’ and the penny black petite blossoms stencil with  TCW champagne gold modelling paste to create this bookmark. i also used some crinkle burgundy ribbon, linen burgundy cardstock and the paper smooches bookmark die.

remember to be eligible for a prize from the generous sponsors, your creation must have a hand stamped focal point, although it can be any company’s image.

It’s Spring!

this is my mid month post and reminder that we’re celebrating spring at the Penny Black and More Challenge, isn’t it about time spring-like weather arrived?

i used a wooden penny black wooden stamp called plimsoll pete, coloured with coloured pencils, stamped the sentiment from the PB garden friends set and attached him to a background created with penny black stencil petite blossoms and distress ink.

remember to be eligible for a prize from the generous sponsors, your creation must have a hand stamped focal point, although it can be any company’s image.

i’m submitting this card to these challenges:

More Circles At Penny Black And More

it’s time for my mid month DT post for the Penny Black and More challenge where we are going in circles.

Penny Black mice dandelions copyright linda snailzpace.com-1

i painted these little mice from the penny black ‘make a wish’ set with twinkling H2Os and added glitter to the dandelions. the designer paper is memory box from my stash that i really need to start using up.

remember, to play along, the focal point has to be hand stamped and incorporate circles to be eligible for one of the prizes from our generous sponsors.

Going In Circles At Penny Black And More

since it’s the first sunday of a new month, we have a new theme at the Penny Black and More challenge: Going In Circles.

Pop Up Prezzies

it’s time for the february rudolph days challenge, hosted by maureen (scrappymo), where we create holiday cards every month instead of waiting until the last minute mail date.

penny black christmas teddy front copyright linda snailzpace.com

i painted this cute bear from a new penny black set with twinkling H2Os on hot pressed watercolour paper and added glitter to the snow on the top of the letters. i sponged the tree and used permanent markers to colour the clear gems, stamped the dots in white ink on red cardstock, cut it into a circle and attached it to a doily die cut circle. to finish off the card i added pop up prezzies using designer paper, card stock and my scor-pal. (see end of post).

as always it’s an anything goes theme and the challenge ends the last day of the month.

i’d like to submit this card to the Scor-Pal More than One Score Challenge #56 February ANYTHING GOES.

thanks for popping by.

card stock pop up mechanism:

there are pop up dies to avoid measuring and cutting into paper but the cut layer needs to attach to the inside of a card to somewhat cover the cut areas. i wanted an easier method and these mechanisms that have been around for a while can be used directly on the inside of a card.

1/2″ x 2 1/2″ card stock, scored every half inch with tape on the end section to attach to the first section for a basic square that would extend a pop up 1/2″ away from the card fold.

for pop ups that would extend further out, like 3/4″, adjust measurements: 1/2″ x 3 1/4″ scored at 3/4″, 1 1/4″, 2″, 2 1/2″.

the difference between the 1/2″ and 3/4″ extensions; attached with tape to the back and bottom sections.

for my card sample, i wanted a row of prezzies so instead of creating three mechanisms, i created one: 3 3/4″ x 2 1/2″, scored 4 times at 1/2″.

the one piece pop up mechanism:

any questions, contact me.

supplies:

stamp: penny black bear, hero arts snow dots, clearly besotted sentiment and paw
dies: impression obsession tree, impression obsession stitched presents, taylored expressions bow, marianne design doily

Three Tags For Penny Black And More

just a little reminder that there is still time to play along with us at the Penny Black and More challenge and the february theme of anything goes with the option of a tag.

i made three tags since they were quick and easy. i used coloured pencils and the cupcake and sentiment from the penny black party time clear stamp set, die cut with the lawn fawn say what? critter tag die set and added glitter to the icing.

remember, you can use any hand stamped image as your focal point to be eligible for a prize from our generous sponsors: Penny Black and Crafts U Love; if you do make a tag you’ll be entered twice.

thanks for popping by.

Tag It At Penny Black And More

it’s the first sunday of a new month so we have a new theme for you to play along with at the Penny Black and More challenge: Anything goes with the option of Tags.

remember, you can use any hand stamped image as your focal point to be eligible for a prize from our generous sponsors: Penny Black and Crafts U Love.

New Beginnings At Penny Black and More

we’re continuing into the new year with a ‘New Beginnings’ theme at the Penny Black And More Challenge and there is still time to join us.

penny black glasses copyright linda snailzpace.com-1

my new beginnings are a change in optometrists and new glasses that i needed but kept putting off since i wasn’t happy with my last pair. i’ve used a new to me mouse image from the penny black ‘especially micey’ clear stamp set that i painted with twinkling H2Os on hot pressed watercolour paper.

remember your focal point must be hand stamped (any company) to be eligible for one of the fabulous prizes from this month’s sponsors: Penny Black and Swedish House Crafts.

Happy 2019

we’re starting off the new year with a ‘New Beginnings’ theme at the Penny Black And More Challenge: (baby, wedding, new job etc)

the new year is about all that’s new for me so far so here’s my creation.

i’ve used a taylored expressions die to create this card and penny black stamps: cute mouse image from the bubbly set, coloured with laurentian coloured pencils, stars from the crystalline set, stamped in versarmark, and the happy new year from the winter magic set. i added red mirri numbers and a few sparkles.

playing along is simple: your focal point must be hand stamped (any company) to be eligible for one of the fabulous prizes from this month’s sponsors: Penny Black and Swedish House Crafts.

i’m also playing along with these challenges:

12 Tags Of Christmas With A Feminine Twist 2018 Day 9

i did it; i have 12 tags and your inbox can take a break.

the day 9 theme for the Ellen Hutson’s 12 Tags of Christmas with a Feminine Twist 2018 Challenge is my favourite:

Day 9 Twelve Tags Ellen Hutson 2018 copyright linda snailzpace.com-1-1

Kelly’s tag inspired me with the whimsical foxes and bright pretty colours. i painted a wash on hot pressed watercolour paper with my own custom colour of twinkling H2Os and then painted the penny black mice with the twinks as well.

Penny Black And More Snow Globe Snowy

oh my, it’s the first sunday of the month so it’s a new theme at the penny black and more challenge -Traditional Christmas (reds, golds, greens).

Special Birthday Treat

i’m cutting it close to submit this to the More than One Score at Scor-Pal #54 – Special Birthdays challenge.

triangle candy holder copyright linda snailzpace.com

i love making these triangle boxes; no dies, just a rectangle and you can customize the size. the length is double the width, so i used my scor-pal to score a 3″ x 6″ rectangle in half and then four more scores. it’s probably easier to watch the video tutorial here.

November Rudolph Days 2018

it’s the last 2018 Rudolph Days Challenge over at Maureen’s blog so by now you probably have a nice stash of holiday cards ready to mail.

Penny Black hedgie stocking copyright linda snailzpace.com-1

or maybe not, in which case you have until November 30 to be inspired and play along.

this cute penny black hedgie and presents were painted with twinkling H2Os; the coordinating hedgie die was a gift from Maureen for being a design team member. i was so happy that it allowed me to fit him in the window without having to fussy cut. i added a sentiment and two die cut frames were layered on top of my bokeh background that i created with sponges and distress inks; you could also use a circle stencil.

i’m also playing along with these challenges:

As You Like It Challenge Do you prefer rubber or digis? I prefer rubber stamps because I enjoy the process from inking a stamp to painting it and trying to figure out how best to showcase the image. Besides, I watercolour almost all images and printing on 140 lb. watercolour paper is not practical.

In Loving Memory

It’s now been nine years since my son passed away from cancer.

copyright linda snailzpace.com-1

this year’s card reflects the countless hours my son spent at the drafting table perfecting his art. back then, while he was illustrating, i was trying to learn how to use a computer and i was lucky he was close by. i needed a lot of guidance, not to mention assurance that i really didn’t break it. i always enjoyed my son’s choice of music while we both worked intently to achieve our goals; his art was in demand and was published and i learned to use the computer independently. i also learned to paint better when he offered me a brush to try.

i painted this penny black ‘designed by me’ wood stamp with a few watercolour media: twinkling H2Os, markers and watercolour pencils. i added the blue lines because my son used blue line paper to work on.

thanks for popping by.

In The Garden
