My Sentiments Exactly

it’s time for the October Rudolph Days Challenge hosted by Maureen and I’ve created something different this time for my design team cards.

As a bereaved parent, I searched for years for sentiments that were sensitive to people dealing with grief during the holidays. Sometimes it can be hard to hear that the holiday season is the merriest, most wonderful time of the year because we’re grieving and missing our loved one(s). It can also be hard to keep up with sentimental family traditions because they make us too sad.

I found a few stamps and one die that I felt were suitable; these Christmas cards are a great way to show extra sensitivity towards people who have experienced a loss.

Memory Box Holiday Greenery stamp set:
thinking of you at christmas greenery card copyright linda snailzpace.com

I painted this image with twinkling H2Os on hot press watercolour paper, stamped the sentiment, added a thin Burgundy linen cardstock mat and attached it to a matte gold foil yardstick that covered the white base. I spritzed with gold sheer shimmer spray.

I used the same burgundy linen cardstock to cut the sentiment and inlaid it on the green dotted holiday paper so it’s nice and flat for mailing.

Visible Image Sentimental Christmas: did not arrive in time to use on a card for this post but I love that it has a ‘thinking of you’ sentiment for the front of a card in a lovely typeface and a verse for the inside as well.

Hero Arts HOLIDAY MESSAGES AND ICONS: also did not arrive in time but I like the ‘thinking of you this time of year’ sentiment.

if you know of any others, please let me know.

Floral Birthday Card

i needed a birthday card but i wanted to step outside of my comfort zone for a bit of a surprise.

pink floral birthday card copyright linda snailzpace.com

i usually paint images for focal points but this time i cut the memory box verona bouquet from watercolour paper and sponged with distress inks. i also used distress ink for the magenta stencil background and stamped a clearly besotted sentiment.

Love Is In The Air

this was a quick card to make since i used a pre-made tag from an old kaisercraft pad of paper that i wish was still in production.

memory box heart copyright linda snailzpace.com

i die cut the memory box Pembroke Heart die with white card stock, used markers to colour everything, added yellow enamel dots to the flower centres, red glitter to the berries, and wink of stella to the stems and leaves. i stamped the love sentiment from the poppystamps love never melts set in purple ink.

i’m playing along with these challenges:

Floral Happy Birthday

when i’m short on time or energy i like to make QAE (quick and easy) cards, preferably more than one at a time.

memory box floral blue copyright linda snailzpace.wordpress.com

to create this card i used the poppystamps freida wreath die, memory box floral delights die and the sentiment from the memory box birthday bunnies stamp set. everything was coloured with distress inks using my new creative expressions mini smoothies and i added some nuvo white crystal drops to the flower centres.

i’m playing along with these challenges:

Simply Thanks

i need more thank you cards so i thought this might be one to easily mass produce; it would be, it’s just a bit time-consuming.

memory box floral copyright linda snailzpace.wordpress.com-1

i die cut everything from 140 lb. cold press watercolour paper and sponged the memory box thanks die and lavish branch leaves with green distress inks, the flowers with pink and yellow distress inks and added pink stickles to the centres.  i die cut the poppystamps honeycomb curve in the centre of the panel but decided i wanted a border instead so i cut some away and attached it to some w/c paper also sponged with distress inks.

Snow Love Like Your Love

this tiny card, just under three inches square, was fun to make even if it did take me a while to complete; if only there were more hours in the day.

 poppy stamps snowman linda snailzpace.wordpress.com

i stamped the poppystamps snowman twice, die cut with coordinating dies and added the sentiment from the same stamp set. i added pink and red stickles to the hearts and popped the snow couple on foam tape over a twinkling H2O painted background; i stamped snowflakes from the holiday bunnies set and added clear stickle dots.

i’m submitting this card to the poppystamps challenge 40 – snow day and the memory box challenge 32 – snow and winter.

Gilded Leaves

happy thanksgiving to my american friends. i love using gilding flakes for leaves, even if they are a bit delicate to work with; no sneezing near this stuff.

paper smooches leaves.copyright linda @ snailzpace.wordpress.com

i die cut the paper smooches foliage 1 leaves from black glossy paper, added the flakes and attached the panel to a sheet of memory box autumn themed paper bought years ago. the memory box a little thanks was also die cut from the black glossy paper.

i’m playing along with these challenges:

Paper Smooches – Fall
Memory Box – Thank You cards
The Rubber Buggy – Challenge #6 Theme: Thanksgiving, Thank You, Blessed, Grateful

Snail Trail

i’m playing along with the memory box monthly challenge which, in honour of july, is red, white and blue. since canada’s flag is red and white, i didn’t make a patriotic card – instead i created a festive one.

memorybox.snails

the snail trail is the memory box corner die, cropped, that the popped memory box snails are traveling on and the snails and poppy stamps banner dies were decorated with white polka dots.

i’m also submitting this card to these challenges:

Season’s Greetings

my daughter requested cards for animal lovers and her bunnies’ vets so i created this card that is flat for mailing. i used three marianne design products: the snow paper for my snow, cut from my own template, the trees and the greeting; i stamped the poppy stamp rudolph, used the matching die to cut out and watercolour with twinkling H2Os.

i’d like to submit this card to these challenges:

marianne design divas
: winter and use 3 MD products (tree die, sentiment die and snow paper)
the cutie pie challenge: festive furry friends

Salty Snow Globe

this week’s 101:water-color assignment is to use the salt watercolour technique in an embellishment/focus point.

101WCgame02

memory box snow globe

i kind of jumped ahead last week when i used my salt watercolour leaves as my focal point, but luckily, i had leftover twinkling H2O bits so i used them to create the trees for the snow globe. this week i created the sky and woodgrain trim with my caran d’ache water-soluble wax-pastels and sea salt, both die cut with the memory box snow globe die and popped on foam squares; the stars were die cut from a twinks/salt wash. i added some details to the tiny snowmen, also a memory box die and i added the ribbon and MFT Die-namics snowflake. thanks for popping by.

Traditional Christmas

memoryboxmc
this is the card i made for my dad. i used two memory box dies: the grand merry christmas, perfectly sized for an A2 card, and the winterberry sprig along with the spellbinders poinsettia die and of course i added stickles.

i’d like to submit it to these challenges:
little claire’s designs – christmas theme
a creative romance – sparkle at christmas
creative corner – traditional christmas
papercrafting journey – it’s christmas time!
DRS Designs – glitter it up
songbird – die another day
ladybug crafts – christmas/winter
jingle belles – linkfest

thanks for popping by.

Blue Hydrangea

blue
i was commissioned to make a card for someone who saw my pink calla lilies card and wanted something similar but in different colours. the hydrangea is in the same stamp-it australia set as the calla lilies and available at crafter’s companion; they stamp beautifully and i love the detailed thin lines. i watercoloured the image with twinkling H2Os, added stickles to the centres and die cut the embellishments out of gold mirri.

i’d like to submit this card to these challenges:
city crafter – #181 give thanks
cards galore – flowers
stampin’ for the weekend – anything goes
one crazy stamper – thankful/autumn

Pink Calla Lilies

COPYRIGHT LINDA @ SNAIL'S SPACE AND DESCRIBED HERE SOLELY FOR PEOPLE WITH DISABILITIES; card with green background, debossed on the bottom portion with a focal point of pink calla lilies in a gold vase
i created this card for the september crafter’s companion challenge theme of embossing. i watercoloured the calla lilies from the Stamp-It-Australia Floral Fancies stamp set (available in the US) with twinkling H2Os; i used the same twinks to create some matching mats with watercolour paper. i embossed a portion of the green paper, sanded the debossed side and added the memory box die cut ribbon slide. i decided not to put a sentiment on the front so i can use it for any occasion. thanks for popping by.

Thanks

COPYRIGHT LINDA @ SNAIL'S SPACE AND DESCRIBED HERE SOLELY FOR PEOPLE WITH DISABILITIES; a card with fall colours and leaves in the background with one die cute maple leaf in the centre and black die cut letters on the bottom spelling thanks
welcome to a new follower! thank you for taking an interest in what i create.

i haven’t had much time lately to create or comment: DH has been on vacation and we’ve had day trips, out of town visits to family, i’ve had volunteer work, commissions, taking classes, and prepping a class to teach. there are never enough hours in the day and since fatigue is a big part of my RA, i can’t always accomplish as much as i’d like.

anyway, this is my DT card for papercraft cafe; i used the same impression obsession die cut stencil i made for a recent card, but i added the memory box die cut letters instead of stamping on this one and the colours are a bit different. thanks for popping by; i hope to find time soon to pop by all those bloggers who inspire me, make me smile, and take time to comment.

Sleigh Bells Ring

copyright linda @ snail's space and described here for people with disabilities; christmas card with red sleigh, driven by a mouse and two other mice with reindeer antlers on a green background with gold jingle bells at the top on a red background

the current jingle belles prompt of ‘Sleigh Belles Ring’ was suggested by talented guest star jessi fogan; we could make a card with a sleigh, or bells or sheet music, but i challenged myself to use all three. i coloured this penny black sleigh image with distress ink pads and twinkling H2Os, added some clear embossed musical notes from penny black’s clearly in love set and added a row of memory box jingle bells.

i’m also submitting this card to:
sandra’s rudolph day challenge
penny black’s beat the heat challenge – the thought of snow has a cooling effect
penny black saturday – christmas in july
stamp and create – christmas in july
winter wonderland – ding dong merrily on high; use bells

Ahoy!

copyright linda @ snailzpace.wordpress.com and described here for people with disabilities; a card with a pirate cat holding a bag of gold on an orange base with blue torn paper strips on the bottom, banners at the top, along with an ahoy sentiment in die cut letters.

this is my july DT card for papercraft cafe; marie, store owner, asked me to make a pirate themed card for the town of kingsville’s annual sidewalk sale this weekend when the tall ships 1812 will be visiting. this penny black halloween cat is the only pirate i have and the sentiment on his bag read ‘mice treats’ so i cut that out and made a mini shaker with gold glitter in its place. i coloured with distress inks, added memory box banners and alphabet dies that i love, and added some torn strips of paper. thanks for popping by.

Penny Black And More July – enjoy!

card with two hedgehogs carrying a present, a die cut enjoy sentiment and two die cut pennant borders at the top
it’s the first sunday of the month, so it’s time for a new theme at the penny black and more challenge; we’d like to see dies and punches on your creations. for my DT card i coloured these cute hedgies with distress ink pads and used the memory box lower case alphabet and banner dies, while the little butterfly is a MS punch. there are some fabulous prizes from sponsors Penny Black, Whiff of Joy, Flonz, and Stix2 and remember that you can use any company’s images to play along, just no digis please. check out the challenge blog for some inspiration from my teamies and the rules – hope you’ll play along. thanks for popping by.

ETA: i’m submitting this card to the Birthday Card Challenge in the Moxie Fab World.

My First Digi Christmas Card

three inch square christmas card in red and white with four snowmen and a die cut snowflake border across the top
i love to watercolour everything and since my printer just chews up my watercolour paper, i don’t do digis. but the talented gina cunningham is the jingle belles‘ guest star who wants us to make a “hybrid” holiday card which utilizes at least one digital element – yikes. i did win a digistamp boutique gift certificate last year and printed one of the images onto 90 lb. watercolour paper that pills with too much water so i made a tiny 3″ card and carefully coloured with distress ink pads and a tiny brush. i cut away some of the memory box frosty border to fit and added stickles. this is also for my friend sandra’s rudolph day challenge – there are only 5 more rudolph days before you need to send out your holiday cards – just thought i’d mention it. thanks for popping by.

In Loving Memory

card with teddy in blue coveralls sitting on the ground with a turtle and a miss you sentiment
i made this card in memory of my son, who passed away four years ago today. being the artist he was, he always encouraged me with my colouring skills when i started card making with stamped images. there are so many memories but this card honours him for his curiosity, love of nature and a scruffy teddy we rescued from a store shelf. i coloured this penny black teddy with distress inks and used my memory box alphabet die.

i’d like to submit my card to these challenges:
twisted tuesday – create a masculine card with clothes ends june 23
creative creations – masculine ends june 22
totally papercrafts – ends june 20

thanks for popping by.

For Dad

father's day card with stamped black wildflowers surrounded by orange, pink and red sponged ink
this CAS card is on its way to my dad for father’s day. i stamped and sponged with distress inks and i used my new memory box alphabet dies, which i love; they’re the perfect size for cards. thanks for popping by.

Memory Box Baby Card

baby card with line of baby clothes, upper case letters spelling baby in browns and blues with animal print on the bottom third and three yellow buttons on the side
this is my june DT card for papercraft cafe and it was fun to use some new memory box dies; i’ve mentioned before how marie, the store owner, keeps a good stock of MB dies, so i couldn’t resist the typewriter upper alphabet and the tiny baby clothes dies. the cute papers are from echo park’s bundle of joy collection and i love that the blue and pink pads coordinate with each other. thanks for popping by.

Happy Birthday

birthday card with yellow background, pennants at the top and featuring a circle of hedgehogs dancing around a birthday cake
welcome to some new followers; i appreciate your interest in my blog.

i’m still slowly easing back into creating so it was fun to colour this cute penny black hedgie image; as usual, i used distress inks. i used my new memory box pennant die to cut two and join together and used papers from the bo bunny surprise! collection – i love the bright colours and patterns in this 6×6 pad.

i’m submitting this card to the following challenges:
allsorts challenge – celebrating their 4th birthday
one stop craft challenge – furry friends
613 avenue create – anything goes
red carpet studio – 16 candles
songbird challenges – all creatures great and small

thanks for popping by.

The Bee’s Knees

inkyanticsbumblebee
i made most of this card on sunday, but i wasn’t able to finish it, take a photo or type until now because of a severe RA flareup that i’m still recuperating from. i’ll probably slow down a little bit, if it’s even possible to go slower, but it’s so difficult not to create; i fell behind in everything again and hope to stop by soon and get caught up on some commenting.

anyway, i’m playing along with the sketch n stash challenge with the option of wings – items from my stash include one and a half year old stamps and papers, four year old punches and brand new memory box precious heart dies. i coloured with distress inks and used plenty of stickles.

i’m also submitting this card to these challenges:
try it on tuesday challenge – feminine and fancy theme
one crazy stamper – flowers
whimsy inspirations challenge – anything goes
natalie and amy’s – things with wings

thanks for popping by.

Dogwood Blossoms

card with bird in a blooming dogwood shrub with a birdcage accent and pink ribbon bow
i’ve had this stamp for quite some time, but just inked it up to make another spring card. i coloured with twinkling H2Os, used the memory box bird cage die and a MS punch around the page; of course i added stickles to the flower centres and the edge of the sentiment circle. i’d like to submit this card to these challenges:
make my monday – anything that flies ends may 11
moxie fab world – the wonder of watercolor ends may 13
crazy amigo – birds ends may 13
simon says stamp  – things with wings ends may 14
no matter which – things with wings ends may 30
crafty calendar – blooms and blossoms ends may 31

thanks for popping by.

Christmas Joy

christmas card in red green and gold with mouse flying through the air with gold bells
a warm welcome and thank you to a new follower.

i made this card for the jingle belles prompt, which is holiday things that fly: angels, doves, cardinals, sparrows, Rudolph pulling Santa’s sleigh… you name it!. i did try to use a bird, several times, but it just wasn’t working, so i switched to this hang gliding mouse which fits the ‘you name it’ category. i coloured the image with twinkling H2Os and i used sketch #63 for the ‘sketchie free for all’ for this week’s papertake weekly. thanks for popping by.

Best Wishes

card in bronze and green with diecut birdcage, bird and flowers with best wishes sentiment

this is my May DT card for papercraft cafe, where owner marie keeps well stocked in memory box dies and i used three on my card: the antique birdcage was coloured with antiqued bronze distress stain to match the bo bunny little miss papers; i used matching paper to die cut one resting bird and the tiny flowers from the floral delights die. of course i added yellow stickles to the flower centres. this was a fun card to make and came together very quickly.

i’d like to submit it to these challenges:

die cuttin divas: anything goes ends may 5
really reasonable ribbon: sparkle, bling and ribbon ends may 12

thanks for popping by.

Recycled Christmas Cards

christmas card in purple and gold with a penguin and jingle bells

another christmas card in purple and gold with a penguin and jingle bells

christmas card in burgundy and gold with a penguin and jingle bells

i’m just making today’s deadline for the jingle belles earth day special to create a card that includes a recycled element.  a family member sent me a very large card last year with three adorable and fuzzy little penguins on it; i die cut all three and created these 4 and 1/4″ square cards with them. i stamped the penny black christmas text in gold, added the memory box die cut jingle bells and added some more glitter to each image. and, just because i have trouble stamping straight sentiments, i used a gold peel off. thanks for popping by to view my 400th post.

What’s Your Hobby?

butterflies in spring colours with a pink rose at the bottom right
in response to the current impression obsession challenge question, my one and only hobby is card making, specifically, stamping and colouring. severe RA (rheumatoid arthritis) forced me to give up all of my creative outlets until i discovered i could stamp and colour, which is my favourite technique. i love colouring with a traditional paint brush and anything dye based, especially distress inks, which is how i coloured this impression obsession Butterfly Group F8123 stamp. thanks for popping by.

HO HO H2O! Part 2

penny black caroling mice christmas card with jingle all the way sentiment and gold jingle belles
this is my second card as a guest star for the jingle belles – lauren and stephanie welcome ideas for prompts so i submitted HO HO H2O, based on my LOVE of colouring with water based products; i challenged myself on a long car ride to come up with an idea. so, you have one more week to “create a card which features icicles, snow, frozen ponds, or any water-related image; OR use water-based products on your project, such as watercolors, water-based markers or sprays, etc.”

i coloured this penny black image with a paintbrush and distress ink pads and added stickles to the snow. the jingle bells were made with the memory box jingle bell border die, coloured with distress stain and shaped with a stylus. i hope you’ll play along too and as always, thanks for popping by.

Grapevine Wreath Card

christmas card with grapevine wreath, poinsettia, greenery and red ribbon loops
some of the challenges i play along with want to know about new toys, so i made this card with my new memory box grapevine wreath die and added some loops of new ribbon i bought with the gift certificate i won from the really reasonable ribbon challenge. you’ll want to visit the RRR blog to have a chance of winning one of three Blogoversary Giveaway gift certificates. i’m also submitting this to the jingle belles – look what santa brought me prompt (ok, i couldn’t wait for santa and bought it for myself) and the christmas cards all year round – anything goes. thanks for popping by.

Acrostic With Magenta

acrostic on blue and ivory card with die cut flowers and butterflies
magenta’s 20th anniversary july challenge is ‘acrostic with magenta.’ i printed mine on magenta paper, matted with magenta papers and distressed the flowers, leaves and edges; this was such a fun project to create – english was always my favourite subject. i admit to not being able to live by this philosophy, especially this week – you know the ones where anything and everything goes wrong? bleh. thanks for popping by.
