All About The Dies

kraft paper bookmark with fall striped paper, a teal maple leaf die cut and edged with gold shimmer paint
impression obsession
had a blog hop last week featuring their dies and i was lucky enough to be a random winner of three dies of my choice, which was tough after visiting the designers’ blogs – there are so many enablers out there. :)

anyway, i made this for the current ‘all about the dies’ IO challenge.  i probably would’ve coloured this leaf from the IO leaf die set (DIE030-S) with distress inks, and i actually have a pile die cut and ready to do that for fall, but i was inspired by daniela dobson’s card and her designer paper leaves. after die cutting my teal leaf, the edges were painted with twinkling H2Os and sponged with distress ink (just had to get inky with them). i stamped the bookmark with IO take time (D5512), created a pocket for it and attached the leaf to the striped paper. thanks for popping by.

Winter Scenery

christmas card with deer in snow around trees with a scallop frame surrounding the image
welcome to some new followers; thank you for taking an interest in what i create.

i’ve been a little under the weather and running out of time, so i created this CAS card with dies and stamps and combined a couple of challenges:

jingle belles – neutral noel and it’s due in 2 hours so i’m really just getting it done in time
rudolph day – my friend sandra encourages everyone to create cards on the 25th of every month
brenda – at floral fantasies is celebrating her blogaversary and almost 4000 followers – congratulations! i would never attempt to replicate one of brenda’s beautiful cards, but she does create some gorgeous outdoor scenes so that’s what i was thinking of when i made this card.

thanks for popping by.

Spring Is Here!

spring card with hedgehog peeking out of the ground and looking up at a tiny bee
welcome to my newest follower, jennifer! this is my march DT card for papercraft cafe; marie, the owner, has been patiently waiting for spring and we got snow today – luckily, it didn’t stay and i was able to make it to the store for some new goodies. i coloured this penny black image with distress ink pads and added stickles to the flower centres and bee.

i’m submitting this to these challenges:

ladybug crafts – spring ends march 24
without wordsends march 27
word play saturday – springtime ends april 11
der challenge blog vom kreativeinkauf ends april 13

Penny Black And More Mid Month – For The Boys

masculine birthday card with orange and yellow strip of paper featuring stamped leaves on a white card base
i made another DT card for our masculine theme this month at penny black and more challenge. i randomly stamped the leaf from flowers sweet, #30-096, sponged colour through some drywall tape and matted to create a CAS card. there are some fabulous prizes to be won – ribbon, stamps, and gift certificates; all you need to do is make a card that suits the theme, use a stamped image as a focal point (no digis) and link up to our challenge blog. for inspiration, the DT have created some amazing masculine cards.

thanks for popping by.

Christmas Cards All Year Round – Guest Designer

i’d like to thank tracey for inviting me to be a guest designer this month at the christmas cards all year round challenge. for this month’s theme of sparkle and bling, i created three cards with glitter, although it doesn’t show as well in daylight. this first card is 3 x 6 and i die cut the ornaments from glitter paper and changed the colour of holographic peel offs with a permanent marker; the base is copper shimmer card stock.

christmas card in pink with three glittery ornaments and merry christmas sentiment

i added stickles to the edge of the top die cut layer, the leaves and poinsettia. the base is also cut with shimmer card stock.

tag with poinsettia and leaves in burgundy, green, beige and glitter with a burgundy bow

i used stickles again on this card for santa’s coat and hat trim, the snow in the image, the die cut snowflakes and even the bunny tails; everything is coloured with distress ink pads and a brush.

My Favourite Technique

copyright linda @ snail's space and described here for people with disabilities; christmas card with large pink poinsettia on green background with pink border and pink, orange and green striped strip along the right hand side of the card
the impression obsession challenge is your favourite technique – mine is colouring with any dye or water based products; i coloured this impression obsession poinsettia H8301 with distress inks and twinkling H2Os and i also used some of my other favourites: pink and green, stickles, texture and making christmas cards. the sentiment, enjoy the splendor D6165, is also an impression obsession stamp. thanks for popping by.

Easter Bunny

card with easter bunny holding a big egg in purple, pink and green
i made this card for my daughter; she has two bunnies and this hero arts bunny stamp reminds me of her bigger bunny, although they’re both adorable and very smart. i coloured with distress inks and twinkling H2Os, added glitter to bits of the egg and flower centre and flower soft to the tail. i’m submitting this card to the spring/easter themes of these challenges: hero artscrafty calendar, word play saturday and oozak. thanks for popping by.

Penny Black And More – For The Boys

teddy sleeping in a chair with an open book and a take it easy sentiment
it’s the first sunday of march so this is my DT card for the penny black and more challenge; this month’s theme is ‘for the boys.’ i used Penny Black ‘a bear of all trades’ 30-108 and stamped it three times – once to paper piece the chair, then to cut out teddy and attach him to the chair and to cut out, colour and pop the book. i coloured with distress inks, added faux stitching and a chipboard button covered with matching paper. finally, the checked paper was made by sponging through some drywall tape.

want to play along? you can use any company’s image (just no digis) for a chance to win some fabulous prizes from sponsors Penny Black, Pretty Little Ribbons, Crimson Cloud – plus, one of the lucky participants will be a Guest Designer. visit the challenge blog for some creative inspiration from the DT and to link up – i’d love to see what you make for the boys in your life.

thanks for popping by.

What’s Your Hobby?

butterflies in spring colours with a pink rose at the bottom right
in response to the current impression obsession challenge question, my one and only hobby is card making, specifically, stamping and colouring. severe RA (rheumatoid arthritis) forced me to give up all of my creative outlets until i discovered i could stamp and colour, which is my favourite technique. i love colouring with a traditional paint brush and anything dye based, especially distress inks, which is how i coloured this impression obsession Butterfly Group F8123 stamp. thanks for popping by.

Garden Buggy

mouse riding a pink and green snail with sending you smiles sentiment and pink, yellow and green papers
this is my mid-month DT card for our pink, pearly and swirly theme this month at penny black and more. i coloured the Penny Black Garden Buggy, 1758E, with distress inks and twinkling H2Os and used my ek success swirly border punch. there are some fabulous prizes plus a chance to be a guest designer and you can use any company’s stamp, just no digis; hope you’ll play along.

i’m submitting this to these challenges:
natalie and amy’s challenge – something old & something new; old stamp and punch, new papers ends feb 27
stamping sensations – fur and feather ends feb 28
stamp and create – spring is coming ends mar 3

thanks for popping by.

Valentine Tag

valentinetag
this tag is the result of getting inky yesterday; my fingers were purple from distress inks. i wanted to play along with the Ranger Ink february inspiration photo so i used all the palette colours; i stamped and sponged with distress inks in red, pink and purple plus dotted some brushed pewter distress stain and finally, cut the heart, covered it in stickles and popped it on foam squares. all stamps are from penny black’s ‘clearly in love‘ set. thanks for popping by.

Shades Of Green

card in green with flowers and wishing you many lovely tomorrows sentiment
welcome to my newest follower and thank you for taking an interest in what i do! i created this card for the impression obsession challenge of shades of green. i don’t usually put sentiments on the fronts of my cards – they’re crooked (stamp positioner won’t work with curved blocks), they smudge because of my hands and uneven pressure or they just don’t fit in. this impression obsession stamp, #C8559, is so pretty that i wanted it to be the focal point. after i die cut the flowers, i sponged the edges with shabby shutters distress ink and added some stickles and punched leaves. thanks for popping by.

Love Bunnies

two bunnies with a flower and a love sentiment
this very cute stamp was a gift from a friend – thanks sarn! it’s perfect for a valentine’s card and it’ll come in handy when i make more thank you cards for my daughter to give to her vets for caring for her two bunnies. i coloured with a paintbrush and distress ink pads, as usual, added stickles to the flower centre and i’m submitting it to these challenges:

stampin’ royalty – valentine’s/love theme ends feb 11
stamping sensations fur and feather ends feb 28
raise the bar – a couple of things ends feb 13

thanks for popping by.

HO HO H2O! Part 2

penny black caroling mice christmas card with jingle all the way sentiment and gold jingle belles
this is my second card as a guest star for the jingle belles – lauren and stephanie welcome ideas for prompts so i submitted HO HO H2O, based on my LOVE of colouring with water based products; i challenged myself on a long car ride to come up with an idea. so, you have one more week to “create a card which features icicles, snow, frozen ponds, or any water-related image; OR use water-based products on your project, such as watercolors, water-based markers or sprays, etc.”

i coloured this penny black image with a paintbrush and distress ink pads and added stickles to the snow. the jingle bells were made with the memory box jingle bell border die, coloured with distress stain and shaped with a stylus. i hope you’ll play along too and as always, thanks for popping by.

Pink, Pearly And Swirly

card with white daisies on a pink background with lace and pearls and two tiny butterflies
it’s the first sunday of the month and time for a new challenge at penny black and more; this month’s theme is ‘pink, pearly and swirly.’ for my DT card i embossed the floral image (PB flowers sweet 30-096) on a pink background created with distress ink pads on watercolour paper and painted the flowers with liquid pearls. you can see the rest of the design team’s beautiful cards on the blog, along with the easy challenge rules – use any company’s stamped image as the focal point (no digis are allowed) to be in for a chance to win some fabulous prizes from sponsors Penny Black, Stampalot, Crafts U Love, Flonz. you’ll also have a chance to be a guest designer if you put GD after your name. hope you play along!  i’m also submitting this to the addicted to stamps challenge, which has a theme of pearls and swirls. thanks for popping by.

HO HO H2O!

christmas card with snow woman in red, green and orange with a cardinal and happy freezin season sentiment
i am so excited to be a guest star with the jingle belles for the current prompt – thank you lauren and stephanie; they welcome ideas for prompts so i submitted my idea of HO HO H2O, based on my LOVE of colouring with water based products. so, for the next two weeks participants will be challenged to “create a card which features icicles, snow, frozen ponds, or any water-related image; OR use water-based products on your project, such as watercolors, water-based markers or sprays, etc.”  i coloured this snow woman with a paintbrush and both distress ink pads and letraset aqua markers and added stickles to her snowflake hair, which i love. i hope you’ll play along too and as always, thanks for popping by.

Reindeer Pup

christmas card with penny black rudolph pup
this is my entry for my friend sandra’s rudolph day challenge to create christmas cards on the 25th of every month and i’m playing along with the my favorite things sketch challenge for the first time. i coloured with a paintbrush and distress ink pads and used MFT die-namics snowflakes. i’m also submitting this to the new word play saturday. thanks for popping by.

edited: in response to brenda’s question, this is penny black’s reindeer pup stamp

Artful Souls

watercoloured square in blue and gold with sentiment in black
i’ve been playing along with magenta’s 20th anniversary monthly challenges and created this for the december theme of My Most Cherished Memory (of the last 20 years). choosing one memory was very difficult; art was a big part of my childhood, as it was for both of my children, although it stayed with them well into adulthood. when i returned to my childhood love of colouring, my children encouraged me so i have a lot of memories surrounding art – this will stay on the mini easel on my desk.

i love creating my own backgrounds with watercolour paper and distress inks and stains; you can find some beautiful backgrounds and a tutorial at shirley’s blog, paper creations by shirley. thanks for popping by.

Penny Black And More Mid Month Reminder

valentine card with penny black hedgie blowing heart bubbles with pinks and blues papers
this is my DT card to remind you that you have time to play along with our ‘love is in the air’ theme at the penny black and more challenge this month. i coloured this cute hedgie from penny black every which way (30-008) with distress ink pads and brush and used the sentiment from hugs! (30-020). i was inspired by the different coloured heart candies to colour the bubbles. remember, you can use any stamped image to play along, just no digis and there are some fabulous prizes, plus a chance to be a guest designer. thanks for popping by.

A Mice Valentine

valentine card in pink, purple and yellow with two mice hugging under a daisy
this is my january DT card for papercraft cafe; store owner marie wanted to see some valentine themed cards so i thought these penny black hugging mice were perfect. i coloured with distress ink pads, as usual, and used plenty of stickles on the flower centre and around the edge of the image. i followed deconstructed sketch #83 by the talented jen shults, who is also having a DT call that ends tomorrow, and i’m submitting this to the really reasonable ribbon challenge of love and ribbon. thanks for popping by.

Walking Through Snow

christmas card with boy walking through snow and carrying a wreath
i made another CAS christmas card for my stash, using a new stamp i received for christmas. as usual, i coloured with a brush and distress ink pads, added snow and stickles and i’m submitting it to these challenges:

Inspired By A Sketch

clean and simple christmas card in reds and greens with tree, merry christmas circle sentiment and celebrate the wonder sentiment
this week Penny Black designer Jill Foster is showcasing christmas cards at the Penny Black blog – one cute and one elegant, along with sketches and i followed the day 1 sketch for my card. i coloured the tree with distress ink, added seed beads, stickles to the star and popped the die cut circle on top of the sentiment circle after sponging the edges. i traced the ‘celebrate’ sentiment with a stardust glitter pen. i’m submitting this to the holiday greenery theme at the papercraft star challenge and it’s my second card for sandra’s rudolph day challenge. thanks for popping by.

Christmas Bird

christmas card with blue bird on a purple ornament
it’s the last rudolph day challenge of 2012; wow, already?! sandra (stamping for pleasure) encourages everyone to make a christmas card(s) on the 25th of every month so you won’t panic when it’s time to mail out those cards. i followed the sketch at your next stamp challenge this week and coloured with distress inks as usual, added stickles to the hat and ornament, dew drops and twine. thanks for popping by.

A Jar Of Gingerbreads

tag in red, green and brown with jar of gingerbread cookies, a season's greetings sentiment with a red check bow at the top with a white snowflake sponged brown on the edges and red gem in the middle
welcome to my new followers! thank you for taking an interest in my creations.

i made this tag with materials created by Clare from the Molly Blooms Christmas Carnival magazine and Card Making Kit that i was lucky to have won recently; the image is coloured with distress inks and layered up with papers and ribbon from the kit. i sponged the edges and added a ‘my favorite things’ die cut snowflake and dew drop. i thought the gingerbread cookies suited the last jingle belles prompt for this year (already?!), which is ‘christmas feast’.
